GMD Design and Analysis Engineer Level 4 Position Description Perform electrical and power systems analysis, design verification and validation for Huntsville Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD) Weapon Systems Operations Support- Field Engineering & Facility Integration. Effective at applying the systems engineering process to tasks related to electrical power stability and load balance, electrical sub-system requirements definition and allocation, vendor design reviews, development of test requirements and system test procedures, assessment of system performance and test data evaluation, support to GMD site engineering staff and provide technical participation and direction in the resolution of non-conformances. The selected candidate will play a support role in Installation Checkout Reviews and participate in facility verification activities. Ability to develop and optimize engineering processes to eliminate potential single point failures and minimize electrical equipment and power system down times. Participate in resolving complex power system and facility reliability problems that require demonstrated experience and ingenuity. Assist and periodically lead the resolution of facility problems from Huntsville with occasional travel to GMD sites including possible Outside Continental Unites States (OCONUS) site development. Uses time effectively and prevents irrelevant issues or distractions from interfering with work completion.Technical [ + ] Electrical Gen & Distribution Extensive and specialized knowledge and ability to design, analyze and validate electrical power systems including generation, storage, distribution, load management, coversion, stability, current return networks, high-voltage corona effects, power filter and fault mitigation, etc. [ + ] Electronic/Electrical Domain Extensive knowledge of electronic/electrical systems or subsystems and components including the requirements, operating principles, design variables, performance, and key interfaces. [ + ] Requirements Extensive, specialized knowledge of how to derive and allocate requirements (e.g., system, sub-system, software) and show traceability throughout the product lifecycle. Education and/or Experience Typically 9 to 13 years' experience in an engineering classification or either a Master's degree with 7 to 11 years' experience or a PhD degree with 4 to 8 years' experience in an engineering classification. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard. Other Job related information Occasional travel to Vandenberg Air Force Base (VFAB) and Fort Greely Alaska (FGA) is expected to support Field Engineering tasks and deployments on an as need basis. Prior electrical engineering field experience with facility electrical power systems and UPS systems is preferred. Specific experience with power stability, load balance and electrical sub-system requirements definition and allocation is also a plus. Experience working with electrical power component suppliers and electrical power system sub-contractors is highly advantageous.
