GMD GFC Software Engineer 5 Position Description This requisition is for a software engineering position on the Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD) Ground Fire Control (GFC) project team. The tasks include: Monitors development activities, documentation and maintenance of architectures, requirements, algorithms, interfaces and designs for GMD fire control software systems developed by major subcontractor. Monitors development of code and integration of complex software components into a fully functional software system. Reviews software verification plans, test procedures and test environments, executing the test procedures and documenting test results to ensure software system requirements are met. Provides technical leadership for software projects and leads software supplier management activities. Leads activities to develop, document and maintain complex architectures, requirements, algorithms, interfaces and designs for software systems. The senior software engineer must have good knowledge of and experience in the programming language of C++, Java, and Ada. Leads development of code and integration of complex software components into a fully functional software system. Develops software verification plans, test procedures and test environments, executing the test procedures and documenting test results to ensure software system requirements are met. Provides technical leadership for software projects and leads software supplier management activities. Leads development, selection, tailoring and deployment of processes, tools and metrics. Leads software research and development projects. Serves as a subject matter expert for software domains, system-specific issues, processes and regulations. Tracks and evaluates software team and supplier performance to ensure product and process conformance to project plans and industry standards. Trains and mentors others. Works under consultative direction. [ + ] Project Management Recognized enterprise experience in creating comprehensive multi-tiered project schedules for significant organization, enterprise and business unit projects identifying time frames for key project milestones and ensure alignment of sub tier activities for overall project visibility, tracking and completion. Directs and manages more complex project schedules requiring interfacing with multi regional or international activities. Independently identifies project resource requirements, integrates and directs multi project elements into a single collective overall project plan. Collaborates with others on the most complex projects assigned. As an enterprise role model demonstrates ability to direct, delegate and ensure performance of assigned responsibilities and tasks as a project team leader in support of enterprise wide or extremely complex large-scale projects. Identifies and resolves any issues to ensure the successful completion of the project. Technical [ + ] Engineering Processes Advanced/expert knowledge of responsibilities and tasks performed by various Engineering departments/disciplines (e.g., design, test, software, technology, avionics). Advanced/expert knowledge of the interaction between departments/ disciplines and how their products/processes affect one another and impact non-engineering processes (e.g., Operations, Logistics, Business). [ + ] Real-time S/W Domain Knowledge Advanced, expert knowledge of domains, characteristics, constraints and products that require real-time software and influence architecture, requirements, interfaces, designs, and integration/test approaches. Real-time domain examples include control systems, human interfaces and signal processing. Examples of characteristics and constraints that impact real-time software include hardware/software timing, sizing, bandwidth, optimization and synchronization. Examples of products include aircraft, missiles, airborne/shipboard/space systems/ground-based operational systems and real-time support systems such as simulators and training systems. [ + ] Supplier Management Advanced knowledge of supplier assessment processes including Preferred Supplier Certification and Work Transfer Process. Has the ability to perform any or all elements of the assessment that includes supplier's past performance, business processes, capacity plan, statement of work evaluation, risk mitigation plan, capabilities and lean practices in order to rate supplier viability to support the Boeing companies goals and objectives. Ability to lead, control and deliver project deliverables, project accounting and appraisal, and optimize the contribution of the people involved using project management tools. Education and/or Experience Typically 14 to 19 years' experience in an engineering classification or either a Master's degree with 12 to 17 years' experience or a PhD degree with 9 to 14 years' experience in an engineering classification. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard. Other Job related information OTHER: Position requires US Citizenship.
