GMD Interceptor Systems Engineer 5/6 Position Description The GMD (ground-based midcourse defense) Interceptor SE&I (systems engineering & integration) IPT (integrated product team) is seeking a senior system engineer to provide technical guidance and oversight on all aspects of the design, development, integration, test, and site emplacement of the 2-Stage interceptor. This position will be based in Huntsville, AL, but will report directly to the 2-Stage Interceptor manager in Anaheim, CA. This Systems Engineer will be the primary Interceptor SE&I point of contact for the European Capability (EC) program and its program management providing daily Interceptor technical and schedule status. Responsibilities also include leading efforts to assess program changes and resolve issues through coordination with existing GMD IPTs and other specially formed working groups comprised of JPO, Boeing, Industry Partners, and/or subcontractor members. The candidate must have experience in executing systems engineering processes and possess strong written and oral communications skills to include proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, and Word. He or she must have proven leadership experience and be self-directed; able to multi-task; work effectively independently and in diverse environments. Experience with the GMD program is desired and travel may be required to interface with customers and program related meetings, conferences, and briefings. Applies an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to lead activities to plan, design, develop and verify highly-complex lifecycle balanced system of systems and system solutions. Leads others to evaluate customer/operational needs to define system performance requirements, integrate technical parameters and assure compatibility of all physical, functional and program interfaces. Leads analyses to optimize total system of systems and/or system architecture. Leads analyses for safety, reliability, maintainability, testability, human systems integration, survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, system security, regulatory, certification, product assurance and other specialties quality factors into a preferred configuration to ensure mission success. Leads, develops designs and conducts research that results in new requirements management methodologies or result in unique approaches that mitigate assessment/review findings. Creates and implements strategic approaches for program and business area decisions. Works independently. Independently identifies project resource requirements, integrates and directs multi project elements into a single collective overall project plan. Collaborates with others on the most complex projects assigned. As an enterprise role model demonstrates ability to direct, delegate and ensure performance of assigned responsibilities and tasks as a project team leader in support of enterprise wide or extremely complex large-scale projects. Identifies and resolves any issues to ensure the successful completion of the project. [ + ] Integrated Systems Basic - Advanced/expert knowledge of design, improvement, and installation of integrated systems of people, materials, equipment, and methods. Preferred - [ + ] Requirements/Tracing Basic - Advanced, expert knowledge of how to derive and allocate requirements (e.g., system, sub-system, software) and show traceability throughout the product lifecycle. Preferred -Highly advanced, expert knowledge of principles of design, improvement, and installation of integrated systems of people, materials, equipment, and methods. Education and/or Experience Level 5 - Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry and typically 14 to 19 years experience in an engineering classification or either a Master's degree with 12 to 17 years experience or a PhD degree with 9 to 14 years experience in an engineering classification. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard. Level 6 - Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry and typically 20 years experience in an engineering classification or either a Master's degree with 18 years' experience or a PhD degree with a minimum of 15 years experience in an engineering classification.
