General Manager (Mapping/GIS)

The General Manager of responsible for the successful management of Sanborn’s Portland location.

This position establishes and meets the fiscal year budget and oversees all aspects of project management.  The GM has ultimate responsibility for meeting or exceeding revenue and profitability goals of budget center and is responsible for follow on sales as well as development and maintenance of regional customer base related to budget center activities, insuring successful project execution, maintenance of client relationships, and employees are happy and motivated. IN this role, you will:

 

· Create and update business unit’s fiscal year budget.  Use budget to plan and implement activities that will meet business unit’s goals of profitability and revenue growth.

· Oversee all aspects of project management to ensure profitability, schedule compliance, quality control, and client satisfaction.  Take early action to correct negative trends.

· Achieve department’s responsibility for securing follow-on work and new sales as appropriate.  Monitor the status of all proposals affecting the department and contribute to the development and delivery of high quality proposals.  Establishes and maintains excellent relationships with customers to promote follow on bookings.

· Provide leadership to the business unit by providing each staff member with a growth path, ensuring fair compensation, assisting with benefit programs, motivating staff with an overall view of the budget center as well as the firm’s progress.

· Produce accurate reports as required on a timely basis; understanding the applicability of reports to business unit management decision making; and review of reports of business unit staff and the corporate accounting group to insure accuracy and to identify early trends.

· Maintain resource plans, including accurate description of employee time commitments, and efficiently reallocate resources, including labor and equipment, as activities and priorities change.

· Ensure upper management is informed of all business unit trends and developments; at all times insuring a true and candid assessment of business unit status.

· Represent upper management and uphold Sanborn’s interests with respect to purchasing, accounting for use of funds, employee relations, contract negotiations, etc.  Remain alert to situations that raise issues of ethical integrity or legal liability and promptly discuss any concerns with corporate management.

· Participate in strategic planning sessions and attend quarterly meeting of Solutions Management Team.  Team with other Sanborn Managers to advance the general interests of the firm.

 

Requirements

 

Bachelor of Science in a relevant field; advanced technical background in remote sensing/GIS fields.

Exceptional communication and presentation skills including proficiency in MS PowerPoint.

Experience building, leading and managing successful teams.

Extensive project management experience required (MS project experience preferred).

3-5 years mapping experience in all phases of geospatial mapping project lifecycle management including proposal development, project design, budget/schedule/earned-value management, customer management, production management, subcontractor management and delivery.  

Proficiency in the use of MS office software programs and computer monitors.

MS in related field desired.

Sales, marketing, as well as regional business development skills and contacts are considered valuable.
