Job Summary:

The Manager of Design Engineering will lead a team of multi-disciplined engineers in the areas of avionics lighted displays and panels.  Applications of these products range from military and commercial applications.  Incumbent must be technologically capable of applying design techniques and designing products into existing and developing markets.  In this role the incumbent must be able to engage the company’s technical capabilities and synergistically implement cost effective, state-of-the-art processes to manufacture products which can be produced on time, at cost, designed for manufacturability in order to produce the next generation products. 

 

Essential Functions:

·        Strong leadership skills that can manage and lead a design engineering team

·        Strong team building skills to unite engineering teams and other functional areas of the company

·        Experience with installing the processes required to effectively manage an engineering team

·        Develop  and mature an engineering culture and infrastructure for the company

·        Clear knowledge and expertise in the implementation of new product development and gate review processes

·        Develop and manage the areas of qualification, design and test

·        Demonstrated knowledge of the engineering requirements with military and government programs

·        Reviews and makes recommendations on policies and procedures to maximize department operating performance

·        Manages fiscal responsibility for entire design and engineering department

 

Experience/Training/Education/Certification:

·        BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Aeronautical Engineering

·        Minimum 5 years experience with managing an engineering department

·        Experienced with Six Sigma and Lean concepts as it applies to engineering and manufacturing environments

 

Knowledge/Abilities/Skills/Tools:

·        Experienced in the design of electro mechanical products, avionic displays and lighted panels, switches and components

·        Experienced in managing document control, and customer design requirements

·        Experience in Design to Cost processes

·        Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA) experience

·        Program & Project Management Skills

·        Implemented and managed engineering Toll Gate Development Process

·        Working knowledge of program prioritization process

·        Working knowledge of work breakdown structures

·        Working knowledge of Estimation to Completion process

·        Demonstrated ability to effectively build, manage and lead an engineering department

·        Computer proficient in the following:

o       MS Office including Access, Excel, Power Point, Project, Visio, and Word

o       Auto CAD, Mechanical Desktop, and Inventor (or Solidworks)

o       MRP/ERP systems
