DescriptionPOSITION PURPOSE & SCOPELead the human and financial resources and the strategic and tactical business processes that drive all Transportation services within Albany International and that facilitate the Albany International Logistics Transformation and. Meet or exceed all cost, quality, continuous improvement, and other key performance metrics in an environment of rapidly-changing business conditions and ever-more-stringent competitive challenges and customer requirements.CRITICAL ACCOUNTABILITIES• Work with Business Unit leadership teams, Corridor Supply Managers, and Site Transportation personnel, and apply transportation, logistics and warehousing best practices, to leverage the company’s total spend to create a world-class global transportation system.• Serve as Lead Negotiator for the procurement of all modes of transport. Lead the Transportation staff, and the transportation services supplier base, in the cost-effective procurement and optimal utilization of truckload, LTL, small package, freight forwarding, ocean, and domestic/internal express freight services. • Lead Provider Performance Programs, Quarterly Business Reviews, and Key Performance Indicators that apply to all third party transportation providers. • Manage the C-TPAT Compliance and Denied Parties Programs from start up through implementation and compliance. • Lead import/export compliance to include NAFTA and Certificates of Origin. • Manage relationships with US Customs and customs brokerage services. • Serve as the key internal Customer Service interface for the tracking, tracing, and expediting of all strategic and/or critical shipments.• Consolidate and manage third party warehouse operations. • Perform total landed cost, network and modal optimization, trade compliance and other sophisticated transportation analyses. • Support the Corporate Director of Logistics to continuously improve Albany International’s Global Supply Chain security and import/export compliance business processes.o Work with Site Compliance Coordinators to analyze and improve Site supply chain security.o Provide import instructions and information to company personnel and outside suppliers regarding document requirements, U.S. Customs requirements, duty rates, transit times, routings, etc. Ensure timely and accurate customs clearance.o Establish and lead regular internal supply chain security audits and Site-level security training and awareness programs.o Lead and manage the Company’s efforts in attaining and maintaining U.S. Customs C-TPAT (Customs Trade Partnership against Terrorism) certification.• Work with Business Unit leadership and Corporate Human Resources to implement effective talent acquisition, talent retention, and succession planning/career development processes for key positions within Business Unit and Site Transportation organizations.• Contribute to the economic targets of the Global Supply Chain Department.• Ensure that Transportation is an integral part of business planning.CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTORS• A worldwide Transportation organization has been created and staffed.• Key Performance Indicators for the worldwide Transportation organization have been implemented.• Albany International is in full compliance with applicable internal and external (i.e., C-TPAT) transportation and import/export policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.• Significant contributions have been made to Logistics’ mandate to achieve a 2008 cost savings run rate of at least $5 million.Required Skills• Proven ability to drive change and create rapid, measurable improvements in critical measures of Transportation performance.• Knowledge and understanding of hazardous material regulations including IMO, IATA, and DOT.• Knowledge of ERP systems and freight forwarder/broker systems would be a competitive advantage.• Observed behavior and prior actions, decisions and results demonstrate: o A clear understanding of the financial and broader stakeholder issues driving strategic decision-making across all functional areas.o An open and transparent leadership and peer group interaction style. Welcomes input from other functional leaders in the continuous improvement of his or her span of control.o Superior written and verbal communications and presentation skills.o Leadership by example through extraordinary personal energy and enthusiasm, constructive assertiveness and proactive innovation, and a strong work ethic.o The ability to interact effectively with individuals from different cultures and for whom English is not the primary language.o A commitment to the highest standards of business integrity and personal conduct.Required Experience• At least 8 to 10 years or more of progressively broadening experience (at least 2 to 3 years of which must have been in a leadership role) in Transportation/Logistics in a manufacturing environment.• Experience negotiating freight rates for transportation services.• Three or more years’ experience selecting and managing export/import and intra-corridor (Europe or Asia) transportation and distribution suppliers and/or negotiating and administering export/import and intra-corridor transportation contracts.• US Customs Brokers licensure.• Well-rounded background in all modes of transportation (air, ocean, and truck).• Bachelors degree in Business, International Logistics, Transportation or other relevant field of study.We offer an excellent benefits package and a competitive salary.
