Materials, Process & Physics Engineer 3 Position Description Defines requirements for mechanical standards (fasteners and standard parts) and assembly/installation processes used in the manufacture of products. This includes; development, qualification, specification writing, design support, production support and failure analysis. Manages test and audit programs to qualify suppliers to applicable requirements. Candidate must have demonstrated technical expertise in mechanical standards and assembly/installation processes. Experience in development, qualification, support and failure analysis is required. Candidate must be able to interface technically with internal and external customers and have demonstrated ability to write detailed engineering reports. Candidate will also work as project lead to support planning/scheduling on research and development programs and technically respond to customer needs within allocated budgets. [ + ] Project Management Experienced in creating comprehensive project schedules identifying time frames for key project milestones. Directs and manages more complex project schedules; independently identifies project resource requirements, may collaborate with others on the most complex projects assigned or assist more experienced employees in complex large scale projects. Ability to accept, direct and perform responsibilities and work assigned tasks as a project team member in support of the overall project; leads and directs the activities and resources of assigned projects and supports higher graded employees in more large scale and complex projects.Technical [ + ] Analytical Skills Skill and ability to: collect, organize, synthesize, and analyze data; summarize findings; develop conclusions and recommendations from appropriate data sources at the department level. [ + ] Assembly Process Complete knowledge of assembly and production processes, manufacturing capabilities (e.g., composites, structures), and data needed for defining delivery configurations (e.g., design definition, program directives, engineering drawings, change memos, wiring diagrams and schematics, functional tests, supplier data). Ability to differentiate production (manufacturing) processes and requirements from in-service procedures and requirements. [ + ] Engineering Drawings & Specs Complete ability to read, understand, and interpret basic engineering drawings and specifications. [ + ] Engineering Processes Complete knowledge of responsibilities and tasks performed by various Engineering departments/disciplines (e.g., design, test, software, technology, avionics). Complete knowledge of the interaction between departments/ disciplines and how their products/processes affect one another and impact non-engineering processes (e.g., Operations, Logistics, Business). [ + ] Knowledge of Failure Analysis Complete knowledge of failure modes and analysis for material processes and parts. [ + ] Standard Parts Complete knowledge of mechanical fastening/joining systems and associated procurement and process specifications. Education and/or Experience Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry and typically 5 to 8 years experience in an engineering classification or either a Master's degree with 3 to 6 years experience or a PhD degree with 0 to 3 years experience in an engineering classification. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard. Other Job related information Prefer Bachelor's degree in metallurgical engineering, metallurgy or mechanical engineering.
