Materials and Process Engineer

 

Overview
Supports existing programs and new business development by researching and developing new technologies. Develops technology to a sufficient maturity level such that it is ready to be transitioned onto a new or existing product. Designs, develops and tests metallic or non-metallic (i.e., composite) structures or materials and their related fabrication processes for use in engineering designs. Analyzes, researches and tests materials and their related fabrication and application processes to develop and optimize materials for use in engineering applications in structures, systems and subsystems. Applies principles of chemistry, physics, and material structures. Determines metallic, non-metallic and composite material and processing specifications, fabrication and assembly processes. Develops material properties and design allowables, processing processes and quality engineering specifications. May review and approve subcontractor material processing procedures.

 

Responsibilities
Work with peers to understand customer requirements. Work with peers, subcontractors and vendors to develop solutions to meet customer requirements. Develop, review and approve material and process specifications for use in aircraft structures. Includes the development and maturation of new materials and processes to support existing programs and new business development. Participate in materials/processes reviews of manufacturing planning documents to support build process development. Review and approve materials and process notes and requirements to support release of engineering data during the product development cycle.

 

Qualifications
The successful candidate will typically have a bachelor’s degree (preferably in Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering, but any basic engineering degree is acceptable) or equivalent and six years of related experience with an aircraft manufacturer.
