National Team Sys Engr 4/5 - Design Rqmts - IDA - NTC - 314 Position Description As a member of the MDS National Team, the selected candidate must have experience in systems design and integration, with strong experience in radars, algorithm development and system requirements development. Design Requirements Engineer will create the system-level Integrated Discrimination Architecture (IDA) design for the BMDS System. Activities include architectural and algorithm development through System Architect and DOORs tools, diagram development, supporting and/or leading BMDS design and peer reviews, and/or initiates documentation and allocation of requirements to appropriate BMDS Elements. Establishes tracking of flow-down processes and conducts traceability of the requirements to associated design specifications. Actively engages in the defining, identification, and management of requirements at the BMDS and Element levels. Position expected to transition to HSV by 2010. The position requires strong coordination, organization, teaming and communication abilities and skills. Requires experience with X-Band radars, algoritium development, UML modeling, and requirement development though automated tools, such as DOOR and System Architect. Requires experience with a Missile Defense component; such as Ground-Based Midcourse Defense (GMD), X-Band Radar (XBR) and Battle Management Command Control and Communication (BM/C2/C). Applies an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to lead activities to plan, design, develop and verify complex lifecycle balanced system of systems and system solutions. Leads others to evaluate customer/operational needs to define system performance requirements, integrate technical parameters and assure compatibility of all physical, functional and program interfaces. Leads analyses to optimize total system of systems and/or system architecture. Leads analyses for safety, reliability, maintainability, testability, human systems integration, survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, system security, regulatory, certification, product assurance and other specialties quality factors into a preferred configuration to ensure mission success. Leads, develops, maintains and identifies improvements the planning, organization, implementation and monitoring of requirements management processes, tools, risk, issues, opportunity management and technology readiness assessment processes. Works under minimal direction/consultative direction. [ + ] Systems Trade Studies Basic - Extensive and specialized knowledge of trade study process (e.g., benchmarking, best value). Preferred -Advanced knowledge of engineering analysis (e.g. mechanical, electrical, avionics, design, circuit, systems, stress, structural, durability). Education and/or Experience Level 4 - Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry and typically 9 to 13 years experience in an engineering classification or either a Master's degree with 7 to 11 years experience or a PhD degree with 4 to 8 years experience in an engineering classification. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard. Level 5 - Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry and typically 14 to 19 years experience in an engineering classification or either a Master's degree with 12 to 17 years experience or a PhD degree with 9 to 14 years experience in an engineering classification. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard. Other Job related information DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience in the disciplines of battle management, command and control, radar, software, integration, discrimination or communications is desirable.
