We are currently seeking Network Engineers to deploy to McMurdo, South Pole or Palmer Antarctic Research Station for various periods of time beginning in approximately August of 2008. The primary is first in line for the position and the alternate is next in line to deploy should the primary person be unable to meet position and/or deployment requirements. Responsibilities: The Network Engineer is a member of the Technical Operations Network Group supporting a wide variety of existing and proposed computer network and communications systems projects. Qualifications: REQUIRED SKILLS: Position requires a BS/BA degree in Computer Science or other related field with an emphasis in networks. Equivalent experience may be accepted in lieu of degree. Successful candidate must have at least six years of directly relevant experience in network engineering to include the following: · Expertise in primary network topologies, LANs/WANs (Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, etc), TCP/IP protocol and standards including DNS, DHCP, ICMP required. · Experience with configuring routing protocols, such as RIP, OSPF, EIGRP, and/or BGP required. · Configuration management expertise with Cisco IOS and hardware as well as prior experience installing, configuring and maintaining Cisco routers and switches required. · Experience with network management applications such as CiscoWorks and related protocols such as SNMP required. · Ability to perform fault isolation and resolution in a methodical and thorough manner required. · Understanding of and experience applying Information Security concepts to core network infrastructure required. DESIRED SKILLS: Project management with cost estimation, cost analysis, scheduling, tasking, staffing, and reporting; Working knowledge of Linux and modern Microsoft Windows desktop and server operating systems; Cisco certifications including CCNP, CCDA, CCDP and CCIE ; Experience with SONET, ISDN, Frame Relay and satellite communications; Experience with Packeteer PacketShaper traffic shaping devices and WAN protocol accelerators; Experience with security software, including Check Point; Familiarity with Internet mail systems and protocols Additional Polar Information: All contract positions include competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package. For the time you are in Antarctica compensation also includes travel to and from the ice, room & board, and you are eligible for a performance-based bonus upon successful completion of your contract.
