That's why we're here. Numerical Control Programmer 3 Position Description Provides numerical control, machining and programming technical experience. Establishes technical requirements for manufacturing and producibility. Plans, creates, verifies and revises Machine Control Data (MCD), geometry and documentation that directs the operations for a complete spectrum of numerically controlled equipment required to manufacture and inspect parts, tools and assemblies for departmental work. Plans and guides the development and integration of new machining techniques and manufacturing methods, processes, software and equipment. Works under general direction. Competencies General/Leadership [ + ] Collaboration Works effectively and cooperatively with fellow employees, peers from other teams and/or parts of the organization and occasionally external customers; establishes and maintains good working relationships by actively involving others and helping them feel valued, appreciated, and included in discussions. Places higher priority on team and/or organization goals than on own goals. Offers to provide help and/or leadership to other teams and/or employees and occasionally external customers when they need assistance. [ + ] Communication Clarifies purpose and importance; stresses major points; follows a logical sequence. Keeps the audience engaged through use of techniques such as analogies, illustrations, humor, an appealing style, body language, and voice inflection. Frames the message in line with audience experience, background, and expectations; uses terms, examples, and analogies that are meaningful to the audience. Seeks input from audience; checks understanding; presents message in different ways to enhance understanding. Uses syntax, pace, volume, diction, and mechanics appropriate to the media being used. Accurately interprets messages from others and responds appropriately. [ + ] Decision Making Recognizes a wide range of potentially difficult issues, problems, or opportunities in own work group, across the organization and occasionally with external customers; determines whether action is needed. Identifies the need for and collects information to better understand difficult issues, problems, and opportunities. Integrates information from a wide variety of sources; detects trends, associations, and cause-effect relationships; creates relevant options for addressing difficult problems/opportunities and achieving desired outcomes. Formulates and/or makes recommendations for decision criteria based on issue complexity; evaluates options by considering implications and consequences; chooses an effective option. Implements decisions or initiates action within a reasonable time. Includes fellow work group members, employees across the organization, and occasionally external customers in the decision-making process as warranted to obtain good information, make the most appropriate decisions, and ensure buy-in and understanding of the resulting decisions. [ + ] Innovation Consistently identifies implicit assumptions in the way problems or situations are defined or presented. Sees alternative ways to view or define problems; is not constrained by the thoughts or approaches of work group members, interorganizational employees or external customers. Draws upon multiple and diverse sources (individuals, disciplines, bodies of knowledge) for ideas and inspiration. Combines complex ideas in unique ways or makes connections between disparate ideas; explores different lines of thought. Views situations from multiple perspectives; brainstorms multiple approaches/solutions; examines numerous potential solutions and evaluates each before accepting any. Targets important areas for innovation and develops solutions that address meaningful issues in own work areas and thought the organization. [ + ] Managing Work Identifies critical and less critical activities and tasks within own and other work groups; adjusts priorities when appropriate. Ensures that required equipment and/or materials are in appropriate locations so that own and others' work can be done effectively. Allocates own time to complete work; coordinates own and others' schedules to avoid conflicts. Takes advantage of available resources (individuals, processes, departments, and tools) to complete work efficiently. Uses time effectively and rarely allows irrelevant issues or distractions from interfering with work completion.Technical [ + ] Assembly Process Complete knowledge of assembly and production processes, manufacturing capabilities (e.g., composites, structures), and data needed for defining delivery configurations (e.g., design definition, program directives, engineering drawings, change memos, wiring diagrams and schematics, functional tests, supplier data). Ability to differentiate production (manufacturing) processes and requirements from in-service procedures and requirements. [ + ] Computer Aided Tools Knowledge Able to apply a complete understanding of computer aided tools and systems (e.g., computer aided design/computer aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM), computer aided three dimensional interactive data.) (CATIA), Mentor Graphics, Unigraphics). Able to manipulate data sets, compare measurement data, create stereo lithography files. [ + ] Engineering Drawings & Specs Complete ability to read, understand, and interpret basic engineering drawings and specifications. [ + ] Machine Control Data (MCD) Complete ability to utilize or create source geometry for generation of Machine Control Data (MCD). Ability to verify MCD and create documentation to support manufacturing processes. [ + ] Manufacturing Methods Complete knowledge of manufacturing, methods, fabrication processes (e.g., forming, stamping, machining, heat treatment, machines/machine tools, cutting tools and fluids, N/C programming, instrumentation, data acquisition and control systems). Ability to select the best method of producing parts, tools or assemblies. Education and/or Experience AA degree in related discipline and 3 to 5 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
