Description:  The Optical Manufacturing Engineer develops, documents, and implements optomechanical assembly and testing processes to achieve the most economical production while exceeding quality standards.  Coordinates activities with other departments to achieve Company objectives to insure timely completion of the deliverables required.
 
Responsibilities *  Develops, documents, and implements manufacturing processes to insure the incorporation of Design For Manufacturability concepts, to reduce and control costs, to improve production methods, and to provide support for current and future production requirements.  *  Performs hands-on manufacture and assembly of optical systems and components, including parametric testing and metrology in coordination with cross-functional development teams in a clean room environment.  *  Implements cost improvement plans, including all aspects of ongoing and future cost improvement projects, within the assigned areas and in support of Manufacturing.  Recommends and implements new projects to further business objectives.  *  Reviews new product introductions at all stages, recommending modifications where advisable to minimize costs and permit the most favorable manufacturing methods.  Develops manufacturing processes and procedures to insure manufacturability and exceed quality expectations.  *  Liaison between the Engineering, Research & Development, and other departments within Manufacturing to assure that the manufacture of products meets functional requirements at the lowest possible cost.  *  Designs and debugs tooling for infrared optics manufacturing, on axis assembly, and test; supports manufacturing in resolving technical production issues and equipment problems; provides training and development to all manufacturing personnel.
 
Requirements: *  BS degree in Optics, Mechanical or Optical Engineering and three years relevant Manufacturing Engineering experience, or seven years equivalent Manufacturing Engineering experience, preferably in opto-mechanics or opto-electronics manufacturing.  *  Demonstrated ability to perform “hands on” technical work in a manufacturing environment requiring opto-electronics, precision motion control, optical testing, data collection and analysis, and applied statistical techniques.  *  Strong working knowledge of geometrical and physical optics, including optical test and metrology setups such as interferometers, stylus profilers, and MTF testing, as well as strong knowledge of optical component performance requirements and industry test standards.  *  Demonstrated ability to manage resources to deliver assigned project(s) on-time and within budget requirements to accomplish the lowest product cost while exceeding quality requirements; knowledge of machining and assembly processes.  Strong analytical skills, utilizing effective trouble shooting and problem solving techniques, and a variety of tools and instruments required in the manufacture of precision optical lenses and assemblies. 
*  Computer literacy, demonstrated in the effective use of spreadsheet reporting techniques; excellent verbal and writtencommunications skills with co-workers, customers, and suppliers; familiarity with the ISO 9000:2000 quality standard or equivalent.
