Pipe Welder Apprentice (2008-2009)

LOCATION: CENTENNIAL, CO 80015 Pipe Welder Apprentice 08-09 Raytheon Polar Services - Experience Antarctica Seeking a unique adventure as well as employment? Raytheon Polar Services is the primary contractor for the National Science Foundation’s (NSF) U.S. Antarctic Program. We are currently looking for Pipe Welder Apprentices to deploy to McMurdo, South Pole or Palmer research stations on a contract basis beginning in approximately August of 2008. There are three lengths for the contracts: Summer-(Approximately) August or October through February, Winter-(Approximately) February through October, and Year-Long-(Approximately) October through October. We are looking for Primary and Alternate employees to fill all contract positions. The Primary is first in line for the position. The Alternate is next in line to deploy should the Primary be unable to meet deployment requirements. The Pipe Welder Apprentice is a craftsperson of the pipe welder trade. This position accomplishes pipe welding work on maintenance and construction projects in Antarctica. The Pipe Welder Apprentice performs cutting, fitting/welding, connection, and installation of piping along with welding of various types and sizes of piping. The Pipe Welder Apprentice advises the Pipe Welder Foreman on job progress and material requirements. The Apprentice accomplishes various projects utilizing design drawings, specifications, and diagrams. This position may be required to work outside on various job sites in extreme cold weather conditions. Required Experience · Minimum two years documented experience in all phases of pipefitting work including welding of pipe. · A bility to read design drawings and specifications is required. · High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Preferred Experience · Experience working with a variety of pipe materials is preferred. For the time you are in Antarctica compensation also includes travel to and from the ice, room & board, and you are eligible for a performance-based bonus upon successful completion of your contract. FYI – Only authorized personnel are allowed on station and you need to remain on station for the duration of your contract except in case of emergency.
