That's why we're here. Plating Tank Operator A Position Description Perform any electroplating operations to surface parts and materials with cadmium, zinc, nickel or copper. Develop setups for electroplating operations in which processing time, voltage, amperage and blockoffs have not been charted and record information for future use. Associated Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Determine from blueprints or process charts amount of buildup necessary and surfaces to be masked. 2. Maintain chemical strength and proper level of solution in tanks as specified. 3. Select processing time, voltage and amperage by calculating surface area to be plated. 4. Select electrodes and determine spacing of parts in tanks. 5. Check parts for cleanliness and proper surface. 6. Tin dip parts and materials. 7. Test plating to determine adherence, thickness, quality, surface coverage, and specified buildup. 8. Lead, work with and pass on information to lower classified employees. Competencies Use math that includes addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, decimals and fractions. Attention to detail; ensure all paperwork and computer data have been completed accurately. Read and interpret engineering drawings. Capable of visualizing a three-dimensional shape from a two-dimensional view, converting left-hand to right-hand views and understanding symbols, flag notes, and general notes. Determine if own work is complete and correct as specified by instructions, drawings and specifications. Operate computing equipment to access job information (e.g., drawings, specifications and other online information systems). Operate computing equipment to input job information (e.g., write tie-ins, reports, rejections, and/or maintain records, logs). Follow oral/written instructions provided by the lead, team leader, supervisor and/or engineering. Knowledge of proper use, handling and disposal of hazardous materials per government regulations and Boeing procedures. Determine if discrepancies exist by obtaining information from multiple sources (e.g., drawings, BAC specifications, shop communication). 'Think before acting,' (e.g., anticipate outcome of an action, know if something looks wrong) and ask questions when necessary. Organize, plan, and sequence work efficiently. Operate overhead cranes in a safe manner. Use various types of precision measuring tools. Knowledge of safe working practices, emergency procedures and possible dangerous situations. Understand the application of technical documents/information such as BAC specifications, manufacturing plans and safety information. Effectively communicate verbal information such as tie-ins and job related information. Work alone/independently. Coordinate daily tasks with others to align priorities for smooth operation of joint workloads. Effectively communicate written information such as tie-ins, reports and/or required documentation. Maintain and update records.
