Power Electronics Systems Engineer

Capstone Turbine, the world's leading producer of very low-emission systems used for on site power production, has an immediate opening for Power Electronics Systems Engineer. You will be responsible for defining technical requirements to interface a turbine power generator to the utility grid. Provide analysis and trade studies to identify the best product architecture that meets all technical requirements through the use of predictive modeling tools. You will develop product specifications for internal and external suppliers for electronics, hardware, and software, define the scope of work for product development teams and develop qualification plans that will verify that all products, sub-systems and components comply with requirements.

The person we seek should have a MS degree in Electrical or Chemical Engineering with 3 years experience or a Bachelor's degree in the same discipline with a minimum of 8 years of experience. Experience with Motor Controllers and/or UPS systems with active semiconductor switching devices (IGBT's), as well as passive components found in power converter circuits (capacitors, inductors, transformers, etc). Experience with control algorithm development and implementation within electronic controllers. Familiar with certification requirements for power generation systems and electrical grid interconnection systems including IEEE 519, IEEE 1547, and UL 1741. Must be capable of troubleshooting electronics with the ability to operate typical electronics test equipment. Desirable to have experience with energy storage technology and energy storage power management. Strong experimental, analytical, and computer skills including the ability to develop simulation models to produce data for analysis using PSpice and Matlab/Simulink.
