Power Engineer

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:#6485· The position requires the development of innovative embedded electronic systems for controlling motor drives, battery management systems, power converters, and test systems.· Tasks will also include the design, analysis, and rapid prototype of power electronics systems for mobile and fixed applications in power ranges between 100-kW and 10-MW.· Also responsible for leading design groups of software and test engineers through development and validation phases to demonstrate the controlled operation of the innovative power electronics systems. · This position requires the ability to interface with external and internal customers on a technical basis and direct members of the technical staff.   · Maintain and upgrade the automatic controls and data acquisition system for superconducting magnet system       operating in a remote environment.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: · Typically requires a Bachelors degree or Masters degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical field and progressively complex engineering experience as follows; nine or more years experience with a Bachelors degree, seven or more years experience with a Masters degree.· Demonstrates an extensive technical expertise and application of engineering principles, concepts, theory and practice with the ability to organize, plan, schedule, conduct and coordinate workloads to meet established deadlines or milestones with some experience in project leadership.· Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required enabling an effective interface with other departments and/or professionals, and capable of representing the organization as a prime technical contact, as well as providing leadership and guidance to less experienced professionals.· Must be able to work both independently and in a team environment.· U.S. citizenship or permanent resident and capable of obtaining DoD secret security clearance.  DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: · Experience in developing battery management systems for modern battery chemistries.· Experience in the design fabrication and testing of motor controllers for permanent magnet motors.  · Experience in the use of Opto 22 or related systems.
