Principal Electrical Engineer

LOCATION: EL SEGUNDO, CA 90245 Job Description: As a lead ASIC or FPGA design engineer, the candidate will lead the development of million+ gate Commercial FPGAs or ASICs while mentoring junior design engineers on the team. Tasks include generating the component requirements and specifications, defining top-level architecture as well as micro architecture for detailed implementation, developing HDL code, defining verification methodology, building a test bench for self-checking verification, modeling of C reference to verify RTL functionality vs requirements, performing detailed synthesis, timing analysis, and analysis of reset and clock start-up time lines. The candidate is also expected to lead internal design reviews to ensure adherence to the Raytheon ASIC and FPGA design process and methodology in addition to reviews with customers to make sure requirements are being met and also risks and opportunities are properly identified and addressed. The candidate will lead a team of comprised of both senior and junior engineers throughout the various phases of design definition, preliminary design, and detailed design and be involved in proof-of-concept testing and unit integration after part fabrication. This position will also entail interfacing with managers and customers and therefore excellent verbal and communication skills are also required. Required Skills: - 8+ years engineering experience with increasing levels of project management and leadership experience. - Candidate must have intimate knowledge of ASIC and/or FPGA design methodology and be well versed with both front-end design, simulation, verification CAD tools as well as back-end physical implementation toolsets. - Prior ASIC and/or FPGA technical lead experience and knowledge of subsystem design are also a must. - Strong written and communication skills. - Strong programmatic and technical judgment and decision making abilities. - Excellent follow-through and persistence. - Strong advocate of process improvements such as CMMI and Six Sigma. -Good people and customer interface skills. -Ability to influence development of project objectives and goals. -Competence with MS Office applications a must. Desired Skills: -Knowledge of digital board design and signal integrity principles is a plus. -An understanding of Raytheon Six Sigma approach to problem solving is desired.
