Principal Software Engineer

LOCATION: HUNTSVILLE, AL 35801 Job Description: The individual will be part of an integrated team tasked with defining the physical, functional, and technical architecture necessary to describe the desired capabilities of an evolving BMDS Battle Management, Command & Control, and Communications effort. Daily duties include software architecture and systems design and development utilizing UML. Engineering personnel must possess an understanding of the operational and technical issues associated with their specific missile-defense related domain, such as engagement management, track management, sensor management, etc. They must have experience to work with the systems and software engineers to develop solutions using new processes and techniques. Required Skills: The Engineer must understand software architecture and systems design and development. The candidate will possess 8 years experience in a related engineering environment, with proven experience in a Ballistic Missile Defense Systems Environment. Experience using UML modeling activities is required. Ability to analyze high level needs and through a structured and logical approach refine the need into an integrated set of hardware and software. Ability to lead of portion of the activity and direct the activities of junior and mid-level engineers. Excellent communications skills desired (written and oral) required. Desired Skills: Skills required include, identification of desired capabilities, definition of desired capabilities, modeling the interrelationships between internal and external components of the C2BMC, communicating the desired capabilities to a diverse group of developers, engineers, subject matter experts, and users, and generating system/element level specifications to document and control the achievement of the desired capabilities. Required Education (including Major): BS degree preferably in Engineering. Equivalent experience accepted for degree.
