Production Planner
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Activities are executed in strict accordance with all departmental and divisional policies/procedures to ensure that contractual requirements are met. With guidance from appropriate supervision, incumbents are responsible for resolving scheduling conflicts, performing/handling material and production control functions/problems. An incumbent may perform any of the following or comparable activities:Monitors, researches, analyzes & compiles information from material management systems, & confers with appropriate Materials Management, Production & support department personnel to obtain/provide material status information, & ensures the timely identification, resolution & prevention of construction problems. Plans the process for manufacture, fabrication, assembly, erection or installation of parts, components, assemblies, etc. Analyzes and interprets construction bills of material, scopes, specifications, etc., to determine the content & plan manageable work elements. Prepares defined work packages, including detailed instructions, drawings, bills of material, references, inspection requirements, etc., to initiate and control production work. Monitors, analyzes & reports performance to schedule of production & production support activities, utilizing information derived from material and production control systems (STIC Lists, Late and Due Reports, Material Requirements Lists, etc.). Ensures all parties are fully cognizant of production status, & that work planning and execution objectives are integrated & communicated. Analyzes requests for maintenance/repair services & determines the validity, content & scope of requested work. An incumbent confers with requesting departments & visits sites to identify & sequence manageable work elements; determines which crafts are required to perform the work; determines man-hours through the application of engineered work standards; assigns priorities & prepares work order documents. An incumbent may also prepare sketches & drawings to clarify instructions, & provide other relevant information, such as applicable codes, regulations, etc. Coordinates & expedites the placement of purchase orders and/or delivery of material. Interfaces w/Purchasing, Engineering, Vendor or Navy personnel to coordinate the ship out of vendor material. Schedules, expedites, & coordinates the delivery & movement of critical material, including material transfers & conditional material releases. Assists in the development of propulsion plant refueling and testing plans & schedules. Coordinates the resolution of discrepancy reports, vendor service requests, etc. Functions as a liaison between Waterfront, Engineering, Materials Management and/or vendor personnel to coordinate the resolution of problems related to the discrepant material and/or ensure requests for information or vendor services are satisfied. Initiates replacement orders for lost, damaged or discrepant items. Resolves problems utilizing acquired knowledge & analytical abilities. Candidates will be interfacing with Ship Systems Planning and Construction personnel, and Newport News Project and Manufacturing Personnel to develop Build Strategy and Detail Plans.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
Candidates must have at least 2 years of experience in the following: Oral Communication, Establish Processes for Development, Computer literate, Inventory Planning, Written Communications, Materials Planning, Planning & Organizing, Production, One-On-One Communication, and Project Planning & Scheduling. This job requires an Apprentice School graduate, or equivalent. A candidate should possess a well-founded knowledge of Company operations, production processes, ship systems, & planning methods and schedules and/or plant maintenance activities. A B.A. Degree in Business Administration, Production Operations Management, or related discipline, & exposure to network scheduling techniques is highly desirable. Experience in Electrical highly preferred. Well developed teamwork and communication skills.

LOCATION: Newport News, VA
PAY RATE: $19.00-$24.00 per hr
DURATION: 6 months
