Test Engineer working with the Propulsion Engineering Group for the ARES program located at Marshall Space Flight Center, (MSFC), located in Huntsville, AL.
The candidate will perform engineering functions of propulsion/hydraulic in-process and final acceptance testing.
Responsibilities:
Perform test conductor duties for in-depth flight article testing, leading a team of support engineers and technicians. Write, maintain, and update detailed test procedures that comply with drawing requirement and design specifications. Troubleshoot test anomalies. Design, validate, maintain, upgrade and troubleshoot test equipment to achieve test requirements. Analyze, process, and format data to customer requirements. Review test data, including off-nominal data, for accuracy, quality and/or fidelity prior to delivery to customer. Prepare and publish test reports to document test results and satisfy requirements. Present test results internally. Train others. Work under general direction.
Required skills:
- Ability to read and understand complex propulsion system, drawings and schematics.
- System level, proof pressure leak test experience with rocket or missile propulsion systems and components of those systems (e.g. regulators, actuators, valves, transducers, etc.).
- Knowledge of leak detection method and equipment.
- Mechanical system troubleshooting.
- Test equipment design, build or troubleshooting experience.
- Proficient in Technical writing.
- Technical coordination, problem solving, and troubleshooting skills.
- Good communication and team player abilities.
- Must have proficiency in using a desktop computer in a networked environment and must have experience using standard office application programs.
Preferred:
- Test experience with rocket propulsion systems. Control Room Test Conductor or Test Engineer experience.
- Experience in Unigraphics, Adobe Frame Maker.
Education:
- 9 to 13 years experience in an engineering classification or either a Master's degree with 7 to 11 years' experience or a PhD degree with 4 to 8 years' experience in an engineering classification.
- Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
- ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
- Employees must meet minimum vision requirements and demonstrate the ability to hear pure tone thresholds as specified by the relevant contractual agreement, regulation and / or company occupational health guide.
