POSITION TITLE: R&D Engineer – Mentor, OHPOSITION SUMMARYAerospace/Mechanical R&D Engineer with excellent analytical and problem solving skills. Specializes in modeling and analysis of diverse engineering problems like thermodynamics, heat-transfer, combustion and fluid-flow analysis of modern gas turbine engines. Have a working knowledge of optical diagnostics for combustion and flames.  Develop smart fuel nozzle technology incorporating Electro-Magnetic (EM) valves and advanced flame and combustion progress sensors to allow for on-line dynamic changes to engine control schemes and to provide real time diagnostics of engine. Develop control algorithms following adequate low-pressure and high-pressure mapping of combustion flame characteristics and combustor flow regime maps. Technical duties include new product design, existing product improvements, testing and analysis. Will work with the R&D team developing cutting edge fuel nozzle and spray technologies. Will work on integrating optical sensors and EM valve technology into fuel nozzles.  Sensor development and integration effort will involve working with a large team on refining and testing conceptual sensor designs, collecting and processing sensor data to produce control signals and managing the thermal structural requirements of the sensor and nozzle. Possess excellent communication and inter-personal skills. Enjoy working with a positive attitude in a solution-oriented team environment.RESPONSIBILITIES· Conducts engineering assignments requiring the development of new or improved products, methods, techniques, and procedures. Contributes to the completion of significant assignments.· Development of new products from initial concept to production release.· Preparation of formal technical proposals which includes design concepts accompanied by written descriptions.· Support prototype manufacturing activities.· Coordinate and expedite product drawing release with drafting department.· Coordinate and control combined efforts in a team environment to accomplish program objectives.· Provide outstanding internal and external customer support.· Meet all program reporting requirements· Some domestic travel will be required as neededThe Ideal Candidate should have:· A Masters Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with 5+ years experience,· Background in control theory, engine control and optical diagnostics. Electromagnetic valve experience a plus. · Product design experience, preferably new designs.· Parametric Technology Pro-Engineer 3D experience highly desirable.· Working knowledge of geometric tolerancing and dimensioning per ANSI Y14.5· Working knowledge of Stainless Steel, Nickel and Cobalt based superalloys.· Metal joining experience a plus.· Familiarity with conventional and non-conventional machining methods.· Must demonstrate effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to work effectively with others and be a participative team player. · An attitude to be the best. Job Tasks1. Develop smart fuel injection technologies integrating electromagnetic valves and optical sensors for Active Combustion Control Systems (ACCS).2. Work with project partners (large and small companies and universities) to mature technology to technology Readiness level 6 (TRL6) 3. Develop sensor packaging and integration schemes. 4. Develop injector control algorithm with the above partners. 5. Be the champion of active combustion control at Gas Turbine Fuel Systems Division. 6.
