RESEARCH ENGINEER Status: Exempt Type: Regular/Full TimeMust possess the education, experience and skills of the Principle Engineer. This is a working engineering leadership level position which will perform the full spectrum of Systems Engineering duties. The position requires a mastery of Engineering principles and Systems Engineering processes. Applies intensive and diverse knowledge of engineering technology and systems engineering concepts to the specific technical tasks. This individual is capable of exercising a high degree of originality and sound judgment in formulating, evaluating, and correlating broad engineering research concepts, guiding the analysis of unique problems and developing new and improved techniques and methods. Reviews project instructions to ascertain requirements, specifications, procedures, objectives, equipment, nature of technical problem, and possible solutions. Document and illicit user requirements and able to generate requirements and perform requirements decomposition and allocation to fully document operational and functional needs for systems in specific technical areas. Able to generate and validate test procedures to ensure that all system requirements are met. Sets up and conducts tests or studies of complete systems, components, or concepts under research test conditions to investigate proposals for improving performance or other factors, or to obtain data for development, standardization, and quality control. Records test or report procedures and results, numerical and graphical data, and makes recommendations for changes. Creates reports and other documentation necessary to describe the results of studies and / or tests. Creates project schedules to track progress on projects and to ensure that deadlines are met. Analyzes indicated and calculated results in relation to requirements, specifications, or test objectives. Mentors engineers in specific technical areas and/or the system engineering process and project management principles. Requires the attainment of the Project Management Professional Certification. Shall follow the safe practices and rules contained in the TYBRIN Corporate Safety and Health plan and other such rules and practices communicated on the job. Report status to Senior Technical Lead and/or Task Focal Point as required.This position requires all of the above attributes as they apply to the specific task orders listed below:Research Functional Support - This position provides for the engineering and technical services to support operations engineering activities on Dryden Flight Research Center (DFRC) research aerospace flight programs/projects. This support could include, but not be limited to, the following tasks: (1) flight test engineering: establish and maintain currency of flight project engineering database and flight planning work station; produce flight test cards from project plans, flight requests, and research maneuver requirements; perform studies to improve and advance techniques for mission planning, and control and develop and outline relevant recommendations; develop and maintain currency of database management tools for flight planning; provide project engineering for flight planning, mission simulation, crew training, development of flight procedures, and mission monitoring; monitor mission performance during test flights, and maintain records including maneuvers performed, time of day, data anomalies, vehicle fuel load and burn, flight pattern, and control room status; provide technical assistance during development of integrated test plans, which include (but are not limited to) project plans, ground test plans, program objectives, mission rules, control room requirements, and test range requirements; develop flight test plans that include (but not limited to) test conditions, maneuvers, required instrumentation, and methodology of data analysis; perform mission and test planning, ensuring that project approved safety criteria are followed, and efficient mission conduct is permitted; develop criteria and flight planning for efficient envelope expansion testing; during research flights, keep a notebook of test points and maneuvers, and monitor flight telemetry data to determine data and maneuver quality; (2) operations engineering: provide independent technical review of activities within operations engineering. Requirements: Education Required: Must have a Bachelors Degree or greater in Engineering or Physical Science, and at least 20 years experience, including 5 years experience as Principal Investigator, Group Leader, Project Engineer, Project Manager, or equivalent. (Masters Degree may be substituted for 2 years related experience, Doctorate for 5 years related experience) Work Experience Req. (Yrs.): 20+ years with a BSU.S. citizenship.
