RF Systems Engineer

This is a direct or contract to hire position.

 

The Systems Engineer will work in a development atmosphere with a cross-functional team to design, verify and produce new RF test instruments and modifications to existing RF instruments.  The systems engineer will lead and participate in the translation of customer needs to design and verify requirements. This will include development and management as well as verification and validation activities.  The Systems Engineer will assist in planning the system integration for new instruments so that the various system components are brought together in a logical sequence. The Systems Engineer will participate in isolation, diagnosis, and correction of problems discovered during integration and verification activities.

 

· Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Computer Engineering or closely related field. A Master’s or PhD is preferred.

· Eight (8) years of systems engineering and/or technical project team lead experience on complex programs in the RF instrumentation or RF communications industry.

· Experience in designing RF circuits in the range 100 kHz to 6 GHz, such as receivers, generators, modulators, demodulators, power detectors, frequency synthesizers, up- and down-converters, amplifiers, filters.

· Experience with system simulation tools and software.

· Experience with system analysis and design for hardware / software design trade-off. This includes effective partitioning of hardware/software resources for maximum efficiency.

· Understanding of all phases of electronic and software product development from concept through end-of-life.

· Familiar with latest technology for RF printed circuit layouts, RF components, RF packaging techniques and electronic systems packaging.

· Understanding of signal processing techniques for digital communications protocols, parametric measurements (power, frequency, modulation) and for signal modulation and demodulation (FM, AM, complex modulation).

· Understanding of modern software development tools, such as version control, compilers, bug tracking, debuggers, profilers and analyzers.

· Knowledge of technical Risk Management methodologies and ways to effectively implement them.

· Ability to develop creative and effective technical solutions for complex problems. Work is performed without minimal direction.

· Able to effectively communicate in written and oral formats. Demonstrated ability to write high quality technical requirements.

· Able to produce a systems requirements specification for a complex RF system.

· Able to work with appropriate specialists to ensure that the design attributes are addressed

· Able to diagnose systems faults, document, communicate and follow up with corrective actions.

· Able to understand the operational environment and underlying domain specific issues related to robustness. Able to identify and understand system complexity, identify system boundaries and external interfaces, and predict resultant system behavior.

· Knowledge of requirements analysis and baseline management. Able to manage the requirements and ensure effective implementation. Able to use a process and appropriate tools and techniques for functional analysis. Able to trace verification requirements back to system requirements and vice versa.

· Able to generate alternative architecture design from the requirements in a verifiable way and choose appropriate analysis and selection techniques. Able to define an appropriate model representation of a system or system element

· Able to perform trade studies to down select to a number of possible solutions and demonstrate that a feasible solution exists

· Able to define weight and assess potential solutions against selection criteria such as technology requirements, off-the-shelf availability, competitive consideration, performance assessment, maintainability, capacity to evolve, standardization consideration, etc.

· US Citizenship or Permanent Resident status required (U.S. Person Status per ITAR Regulations).
