Research and Development Engineer
RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
Broad knowledge of an advanced and technically specialized field such as electrical/electronic engineering. Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology and Masters Degree required; 4 years addional related work experience may substitute for Masters. Working knowledge of circuit components and their characteristics. 7 to 10 years of progressive experience in the applicable engineering field. Prefer candidate that has worked in a R&D environment. Requires thorough understanding of analog and digital circuit design. Proven record for design to functioning and tested prototype development. Fluent verbal/written skills. Proficiency in the use of ORCAD and Pspice simulation design tools. Extensive experience using software circuit analysis tools and laboratory experience with electronic test equipment. Knowledge of microprocessor design and computer programming using Assembly, C/C++.
DUTIES:
Under the general direction of the Director of Research and Development, is responsible for complex and/or innovative analog and digital circuit design, and development of technology used in fuzing products. Assume technical responsibility for a wide range of programs, inclusive of complex and/or high dollar value programs. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
* Perform “hands-on” detailed design of analog and digital circuits including high voltage DC-DC power supply design, design of micro-processor/micro-controller based systems using one or more processor families, including effective implementation of discrete IC and programmable logic, VHDL, FPGA’s etc.; investigate, evaluate, and recommend new, innovative technologies that have or might have specific application in new business areas or product enhancements. May use computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform assignments.
* Responsible for a broad range of design assignments that include: 1) generation of preliminary concepts and layouts; 2) research a wide variety of technical information and historical background data, as required; 3) take design concept through to working prototype 4) diagnose troubled areas and take/recommend design improvements and corrective actions; 5) maintain records, data and other pertinent information, submitting as necessary.
* Generate processes and solutions to engineering problems and contract requirements to support pre-contract marketing activity and test and production work, as required. Seek to identify new business opportunities. Prepare briefings and present in support of all phases of program activities for internal and external customers, including design reviews, product marketing, risk identification.
* Provide routine support functions such as vendor/supplier interaction to identify, review, evaluate and select new components. Serve as technical resource for production programs and proposal activities.
* Is responsible for a broad range of project management assignments that include: 1) manage any personnel assigned to perform various tasks relating to project or program; 2) assist and direct personnel when necessary; 3) prepare cost estimates, budgets, schedules, progress reports, summary reports and management briefings on status of technical aspects, budgets and schedules of ongoing programs; 4) estimate any scheduled work, as directed; 5) maintain priorities and schedules, alerting management of problem areas; 6) participate in departmental planning, manpower and computer requirements, etc.
* Establish and maintain effective communication with customers, subcontractors and other departments to facilitate problem identification and resolution. Communicate effectively, in oral and written form. Maintain professional standards of conduct and performance. Support/implement continuous improvement activities. Eliminate waste in program work and related processes.
* Have ability to obtain/maintain security clearance, as required.
