Veridiam-Advanced EDM (www.veridiam.com) is a member of the Veridiam family of companies, one of the country's most innovative and technologically advanced metal fabrication companies, with three locations in the San Diego area and one in Costa Rica.  Veridiam has more than 500 employees in our four manufacturing and machining sites.  Veridiam-Advanced EDM in Poway (a neighboring city in San Diego) provides all aspects of precision manufacturing in a custom job shop environment. We specialize in electrical discharge machining (EDM) and precision CNC machining.  Our customers rely on our capabilities in creative process engineering and manufacturing services for difficult-to-build parts and assemblies.  We also design and fabricate custom tools, fixtures, and automated equipment/systems for our customers.  Our customers span a wide range of markets and industries including medical, aerospace, power generation, and defense.  Our in-house capabilities and state-of-the-art equipment include extensive EDM capability (wire, sinker, and hole drilling), CNC milling and turning centers, stamping, tool and fixture design, and automated equipment design and fabrication.  We are ISO and AS certified with a track record of stability and success.

We are positioned for sustainable growth from our current 75 employees as we advance Veridiam’s overall strategic initiative to offer a comprehensive array of high end manufacturing solutions to our customers.

Veridiam-Advanced EDM an immediate need for a seasoned Senior Manufacturing Project Engineer with a proven track record in project manufacturing and process engineering.  Candidates must possess solid experience (a minimum of five years) developing and implementing tooling and processes in a precision production machine shop environment.  Additional experience in engineering and/or manufacturing in metals fabrication is also useful.  Candidates must also possess direct experience with precision CNC machining processes on 4 and 5 axis mills.  Candidates with wire EDM experience are highly desirable as are candidates with medical products/components experience.  This position requires a B.S. degree or a combination of equivalent education/training/experience in engineering, manufacturing technology or a closely related field of study.  Knowledge of Six Sigma, Lean and Statistical Process Control tools and techniques is also required.  Exceptional written and verbal communication, interpersonal, organization, attention to detail and project management skills are required.  Proficiency with MS Office software is required; experience with other software helpful.

This key person is responsible for new product/process development by either (1) receiving, digesting, and effectively duplicating an OEM customer provided process or (2) or adapting the process in terms of DFM to Veridiam capabilities.  Coordinate and direct process development, process improvement, and manufacturing activities.  Interface as necessary with production employees, supervisors/coaches, engineers, management, vendors and customers to complete assignments.  Seek optimum balance between process robustness, process cost and product quality.

This is a full-time position, however due to the current increase in demand for our products and services, the company will entertain hiring an expert/consultant/contractor on a three-month arrangement until a full-time employee candidate is hired.  Candidates must have the legal right to work in the U.S.

Position Duties and Responsibilities

3. Establish, proof, and transition to production the necessary tooling, equipment, manufacturing and verification methods to create and maintain capable and robust production processes.

4. Provide expert technical assistance and on-the-job training to the production employees and supervisors/coaches, and ensure all work is performed in an expeditious, complete, cost effective manner.

5. Oversee critical process development work.  Review the work of others for accuracy, completeness, and quality.

6. Develop and implement process improvement plans based on cost, quality, and delivery needs.

7. Interface with production employees, supervisors/coaches, engineers, management and customers to develop a common understanding of needs, assess priorities and develop and implement process changes.

8. Plan process development in advance, when possible, coordinating with the Customer Service/MRP Department and in consideration of the manufacturing schedule to ensure economic and efficient use of material, people and manufacturing resources.

9. Develop an understanding of current and potential process capabilities and process control limits.  Implement statistical process control (SPC) where appropriate.  Provide on-the-job SPC training to the production employees and supervisors/coaches.  Work with others to systematically ensure product quality through process control techniques.

10. Identify and order material, tooling and equipment necessary to support manufacturing operations.  Recommend new equipment when justified by quality and/or cost benefits.  Seek optimum balance between the value of the tooling inventory and development cycle time.

11.  Provide technical leadership to qualify suppliers by working closely with the supplier and customer personnel to develop and implement comprehensive and responsive process qualification plans for specific products.  Coordinates qualification plans with in-house team members including Quality, Operations, and Customer Service.
