SQL Server Database Analyst

Summary: 
Work is of an intellectual and varied nature, requiring independent judgment and discretion.  It is anticipated that at least 80% of employee’s work time will be devoted to professional duties.  The prospective analyst must be able to work in a team environment. As a database administrator, use Microsoft SQL Server Enterprise Manager, SQL Server SQL Analyzer, SQL Server Profiler and other database management tools to provide analytical, database design, logistical, and technical support for all applications using the SQL Server relational database management system. The analyst must be able to interpret various forms of database design documents, such as entity relationship diagrams, construct database objects, design and implement database solutions, maintain existing databases and have a working knowledge of W3C compliant XML files, structures, and processes. Experience in object oriented design is desirable.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Perform detailed and complex studies and calculations.
• Analyze database design and identify performance tradeoffs based on design.
• Interpret written or oral descriptions of program functionality.
• Communicate database design decisions in a written format.
• Advise development staff on maximizing database efficiency and performance.
• Maintaining maximum database uptime.
• Develop new database objects to support new mission requirements.
• Maintain existing databases.
• Develop and perform disaster recovery procedures.
• Perform database back up and recovery.
• Provide computer and database support to users.
• Support design and development of applications.
• Be familiar with report generation and how reports interface with databases
• Integrate modules and packages into existing structures.
• Support customer fielding of applications.
• Develop and maintain documentation in accordance with specified published standards.
• Mentor less experienced personnel.
• Participate in peer reviews and other group discussions.
• Travel to software or test sites will be required.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• U.S. citizen.
• Knowledge and experience in the use of the database management tools cited in the position summary.
• Thorough knowledge of database management practices and database objects.
• Knowledge of project management principles.
• Knowledge of database design, structure, and objects.
• Knowledge of personal computer operating systems such as Windows XP.
• Basic knowledge of personal computer architecture.
• Ability to interpret design documents such as entity relationship diagrams or other database design documents.
• Ability to write clear, concise thoughts, and to develop ideas in a written format.
• Able to perform work related travel approximately 10-20% of year.
• Able to stand for prolonged periods (1 hour or more) when at field sites.
• Able to interface with non-programming personnel.

Security Requirements:
Employee will be required to obtain and maintain a SECRET level security clearance while performing duties under this contract.

Education and/or Experience: 
• B.S. or B.A. degree required in related technical field. B.S. Computer Science preferred.
• Three years experience as database administrator.

Language Skills: 
Ability to read and understand information from various sources.  Ability to create reports and write correspondence that is clear and well organized.  Ability to present information effectively to military and civilian chains of command. Ability to develop ideas in a written format.

Mathematical Skills: 
Ability to use basic mathematical concepts such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, discounts, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability: 
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Must have the ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Other Job-related skills: 
Ability to communicate and work effectively with all military and civilian chain of command.  Thorough understanding of basic computer operations.  Working knowledge of MS windows, software design, and MS Office Professional programs such as Word or Excel.

Physical Demands: 
While performing the duties of this job, the employee requires normal manual dexterity, speech and hearing.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job require frequent use of a computer monitor. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Individual will be expected to stand for periods of an hour or more while working at Army field sites.

Work Environment: 
Work is accomplished in a moderately clean office environment with adequate environmental (heating/cooling) control. The noise level in the work environment may occasionally be moderate due to noises associated with computer equipment, telephones, and environmental control systems.  There will be occasions when the Senior Analyst may be required to travel outside the office where mildly adverse working conditions may exist, such as Army equipment repair facilities.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
