ITT Space Systems Division seeks a hands-on engineer in mirrors and mounts for its Rochester, NY, location. The successful candidate will be responsible for design of lightweight optical assemblies for current and future programs. Duties will include first order design of lightweight optics and optical mounts, vendor interface, customer presentation and carrying design concepts through detailed drawings. Support of hardware at a subcontractor site and within ITT manufacturing is required. Working in integrated product teams, our engineering staff supports design through assembly and optical test. Some travel is required.Working Condition: General office environment, laboratory, manufacturing area, or research areas requiring the ability to stand or site for long periods of time. Personal protective equipment maybe required to be used. Position requires the ability to work with computers and lift up to 25 pounds. 1) Requires B.S. degree, preferably in Engineering or in a technical area of science and research with 10-15 years work experience or a MS degree with 8+ years work experience, or a PhD with 5+ years work experience.2) An understanding of FEM analysis, review of data, and ability to perform NASTRAN static analyses a plus. 3) Ability to support design decisions with well documented engineering analyses and calculations. 4) High attention to detail and the ability to anticipate and detect problems. 5) Good foundation in basic engineering principles6) Excellent presentation and communication skills.7) An understanding of wavefront error budgeting and error sources.Competencies Needed: - Must have an accomplished expertise, highly proficient knowledge and considered a technical leader in the area of engineering expertise, engineering standards, principles and theories to complete engineering tasks assigned.
