Senior Systems / Software Engineer
Job Description
This senior engineer will work in a hands-on R&D atmosphere with a cross-functional team of hardware, firmware, software, research engineers and program managers. The Systems / Software Engineer will lead the design and development of global positioning, inertial and communication systems where the key innovation is software-based.
ResponsibilitiesDefine overall project technical approach and lead the software design and implementation Develop system requirements, definitions, and defining measurable performance Perform functional decomposition of software and closely monitor design and implementation progress performing corrective action as needed Lead the overall design effort, working closely with other engineers and departments in order to meet project and customer objectives and specifications Serve as the focal point for bringing technologies together into a working system that meets defined requirements and company standards Responsible for the execution of system test plans and methods based on system specifications and designs Understand components and third party software, evaluating trade-offs and integrating selected items into the product design Work closely with members of the program and technical staff to develop project plans and schedules, analyze risk decisions, coordinate product builds, integrate systems, and assure quality control Adhere to processes that will result in the successful integration and interoperability of systems Work with senior management to evaluate prototypes and complete product qualification testing in order to determine commercial or larger scale market viability of the product Participate in the integration and testing of complex systems, and documenting performance and test results
Requirements
This position requires an experienced self-starter who is able to jump in and hit the ground running, a team player, and a versatile performer who can both work the big picture and deep dive in their areas of expertise to provide an individual contribution. A positive, flexible, “can-do” attitude is required. The successful candidate will possess the following combination of knowledge, skills and experience:10 years hands-on engineering experience and 5 years designing, developing and integrating software into systems Knowledge of requirement analysis, architectural design, and service-oriented architectures Familiarity with all phases of product development, and success in taking at least one product or program through a complete systems and software engineering cycle – from proposal through specification, design, coding, system integration, testing and acceptanceExperience in analyzing and selecting appropriate parts and modules for a project, including platforms, hardware components, and third party software Demonstrated competence in developing systems architectures using Object-Oriented Architecture and Design and one or more of the following: J2EE, .NET, embedded or database-centric platform Moderate level of design and coding experience in C, C++, MATLAB, or Java Systems experience in one or more of the following areas: real-time systems, radar systems, RF communications, GPS receivers, digital signal processing, antennas, or instrument navigation systems Strong organizational, planning, and multitasking skills
The following knowledge, skills, and experience are highly desirable:5+ years experience developing aerospace or defense systems At least 5 years experience in an industry that produced robust products requiring compliance with quality and durability standards in the field Moderate level of coding experience in more than one of the following C, C++, MATLAB, Java, and Simulink 5+ years of experience developing Enterprise system architectures, Portal applications and web services Proficiency with tools used to support Oracle Databases and Applications development including, but not limited to, PL/SQL, SQL*Plus, Java, JSP, Java Beans, OAF, Web Services, and XML. Experience with Information Security and PKI Experience with system integration and testing and performance analysis Knowledge of navigation systems and concepts Active security clearance
Citizenship, Education, and Security ClearanceBS degree or higher in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or other related technical discipline. Masters degree or higher is preferred. U.S. citizenship and eligibility for security clearance is required. Prior or current security clearance is preferred. Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
