Section Manager VIIRS

LOCATION: EL SEGUNDO, CA 90245 Job Description: The Section Manager for the VIIRS section in the Space Systems Department performs direct line management activities for approximately 15-20 engineers. These activities include training coordination, performance management, career development, and resource allocation. -The candidate will ensure two-way communications for section members; serve as a day-to-day liaison to the program concerning employee job assignments, performance, and recognition. -Responsibilities also include coordinating program staffing needs and reductions, optimizing resource utilization and interviewing applicants. -In addition, the Section Manager will team with the Department Manager in the execution of the Center and SAS Engineering goals, and will be expected to actively participate in Department and Center level meetings. -Section Manager for the VIIRS section will lead a team comprised of Systems Engineering experts in the development of EO/IR Space Systems. -This will include System Engineers with expertise in requirements, interfaces and support a number of special programs. -Knowledge of Center's work products, technologies, and processes; in-depth experience with Section's work products and technologies; strong written and oral communication skills, strong judgment and decision making abilities; able to effectively juggle multiple tasks and priorities; advocate for process improvement (e.g. CMMI and R6S); team player and able to build strong relationships and effectively partner with internal resources; customer focused Basic Qualifications/ Required Skills: - Experience in engineering with a defense contractor. -Minimum of 10 years experience -Experience in space systems a plus. -Must have an active Secret Clearance Required Education (including Major): A Bachelor's degree (BA, BS) or equivalent.
