Senior Acoustic Engineer

Sparton Electronics in De Leon Springs, Florida has an opening for a Sr. Acoustic Engineer in our government engineering group.  Responsibilities may include research, design, development and test of complex engineering principles and concepts and ability to draw solutions from both formal training and experience. This position requires original thinking and ingenuity to solve problems and will works closely with other engineering and functional areas to obtain optimum utilization of equipment, machinery and resources.

 

Qualified candidates will have a BSOE or BS in Physics and a minimum of 5 years of experience.  Requirements include advanced design of underwater hydrophones and/or active and passive transducers utilizing cylindrical ceramics, flexural disks, cantilever beams, and geophones.  Our Acoustic Engineer will have experience with piezoelectric materials and applications; transducer potting materials such as epoxies and urethanes; and knowledge of Modal Analysis and FEA techniques. ANSYS and/or PZFlex experience a plus. A good understanding of DFA, DFM, and concurrent engineering practices and as well as experience with high-volume design issues in a low cost environment is required.  Must have ability to set up equipment and validate product designs.  Excellent communication skills are required. Must show high initiative, be self-motivated, and have ability to act independently to resolve issues on technical matters. Candidate must be efficient in using MS Office applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). Experience in generating design documentation, ability to write technical reports and proposals, provide cost and schedule estimates (including budgets), and participate in presentations.  We are looking for a hands-on engineer.  Travel to off site test locations may be required.
