Minimum Qualifications/Education/Experience (or equivalent combination of experience and education):Ideal candidate shall possess a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Masters preferred, ten (10) or more years of management experience.Skills Needed:Responds to the Director of Engineering in conjunction with other Orbital disciplines to insure Departmental and Corporate Objectives are met. Experience leading a large team of engineers is essential. Candidate must have experience participating in technical design reviews both internally and with external customers. A familiarity with hands-on interface and subcontract management as well as a working knowledge of environmental and structural test methods required. Budget and scheduling experience a plus.Duties Specific to the Position:Singularly responsible for coordinating the efforts of Orbital's Computer Aided Design Team, Product Lead Team, Mechanical Test and Program Leads. Sub-set responsibilities include:-Manager the efforts of the Computer Aided Design Department to include organizing, prioritizing and assigning tasks. Responsible for the scope, accuracy and timeliness of drawing release.-Oversee a team of Product Leads to insure vendor-purchased parts/equipment meet specification, cost and schedule.-Responsible for the Test Department schedule, budget and flow-through.-Manage Program Leads to insure lines between Technical Staff, Design, Drafting and Test are fully coordinated.Perform duties as assigned by Director and/or other Management staff. Deliver technical presentations to a wide variety of audiences. Identify, isolate and solve complex structural, integration, budgetary, customer or schedule issues. Motivate and coordinate large multi-disciplinary teams. Make decisions and recommendations that are recognized as authoritative and have an impact on engineering and related activities of the division. Directs the development of mechanical requirements and specifications for various systems through multiple phases: pre-proposal analysis, proposal development, mission and system analysis, specification development, design review/testing, problem resolution and customer interface. Performs periodic technical reports for senior management to document status.
