Summary

 

Responsible for mechanical design tasks for the mechanical engineering group. Tasks include producing drawings for the detail fabrication, assembly, and installation of components and systems on aircraft. Tasks also include providing design guidance and checking the work of other mechanical design engineers in similar tasks.

 

Description of Duties

 ­ Mechanical design of aircraft formed sheet metal and machined parts and assemblies.­ Mechanical design of aircraft interior composite details and assemblies, including; cabinets, galleys, lavatories, bulkheads, headliner, monitor shrouds, and other miscellaneous components.­ Mechanical design of aircraft installations for passenger seats and divans, cabinets, galleys, lavatories, bulkheads, headliner, monitor shrouds, and other miscellaneous components.­ Mechanical design of aircraft installations for avionics and cabin systems equipment including satellite communications systems, telephone systems, in flight entertainment/cabin management systems (IFE/CMS), camera systems, security systems, and other systems as required by contract.­ Mechanical design of aircraft structures and structural modifications to support the equipment and systems.­ Mechanical design of modifications to aircraft passenger cabin mechanical systems including environmental control systems (ECS), water and waste, oxygen, and smoke detection systems.­ Ensure that the design of mechanical systems, structures, components and assemblies are proper for fit and function in the aircraft environment to which it is intended.­ Ensure that the drawings are accurate and free of errors. ­ Ensure that the engineering bill of materials for each drawing is complete and accurate.­ Ensure that the installation of avionics and cabin systems equipment is properly provisioned for the environment in which it is to be installed, including access requirements, cooling, and any FAA requirements for safe installation.­ Coordinate with the stress group to ensure that the mechanical designs comply with the structural requirements of the aircraft and have structural integrity.­ Coordinate with the electrical engineering group for the installation of the avionics and cabin systems equipment to ensure that each electrical component that needs mechanical installation, has a drawing assigned that installs it.­ Coordinate with outside engineering service providers that perform mechanical and electrical engineering work for BaySys. Communicate requirements and coordinate interfaces as required based upon the work scope.­ Adhere to engineering drawing release schedules and budgets to the best of your ability, and provide accurate and timely progress updates to the Project Engineer, Program Manager, and Engineering Manager when requested.­ Provide technical support and guidance to other less experienced engineers.­ Support the Engineering Manager and Director of Engineering with other duties as assigned.­ Support the program managers and project engineers on requests for information for each assigned project.­  Keep the Mechanical Engineering Manager informed of issues which may affect the ability of BaySys to deliver on projects per project requirements.­ Cooperate and support the other departments at BaySys that rely upon engineering data to do their job. Be open to suggestions on how to improve the engineering product in order to help others accomplish their jobs more efficiently.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

­ Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Civil Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology and five years experience in Aerospace Engineering; preferably in aircraft systems, structures, and interiors modifications.

 OR

­ Associate of Science in Mechanical Engineering Technology and seven years experience in the design of a combination of aircraft interiors, systems, or structures installations; preferably in aircraft systems, structures, and interiors modifications.

OR

­ Mechanical and computer aided design drafting courses and ten years experience in the design of a combination of aircraft interiors, systems, or structures installations.

AND

­ Familiar with a wide variety of aircraft mechanical design concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish tasks. Performs a wide variety of complicated tasks. Capable of leading a group of engineers in mechanical design tasks.
