Responsibilities: Work with business units, patent engineers and outside counsel to develop intellectual property (IP) strategies early in the business and technology planning cycle for the protection and commercial exploitation of intellectual property. · Coordinate with and oversee outside counsel to insure that the prosecution of domestic and foreign patent applications is aligned with the intellectual property strategies · Work with patent engineers and patent review committees to insure that intellectual property is protected in a manner that consistent with the intellectual property strategies · Cooperate with the Licensing Group to insure that the intellectual property strategies and their implementation support current licensing activity and future licensing opportunities · Work with business units, patent engineers and patent review committees to identify licensable Raytheon technologies early in the planning cycle and insure that the patent filings adequately protect such Raytheon technologies · Periodically participate in reviews of the patent portfolio with patent engineers and licensing, business and engineering personnel to identify patents that could be commercially exploited thru licensing or sale. · Coordinate periodic reviews of the existing patent portfolio with patent engineers, patent review committees and licensing, business and engineering personnel to enable cost savings by abandoning patents that no longer support the intellectual property strategies · Conduct patentability/infringement studies and prepare legal opinions and analysis of patents · Participate in due diligence with in-house and outside counsel to evaluate IP portfolios and prepare legal opinions relating to Raytheon’s acquisition, merger and divestiture activity · Work with in house and outside counsel to support litigation activity involving intellectual property · Conduct training sessions in intellectual property for engineering, contract and business development personnel Required Skills, Knowledge & Experience: · Jurist Doctorate degree from an accredited law school and must be a member in good standing of the California Bar or member in good standing of bar of another state and eligible for in-house CA Bar membership · Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office · 10 years’ experience in a law firm or in-house legal with significant patent analysis and litigation experience · 5 - 7 years’ experience in patent prosecution in a major law firm · Strategic management of patent and IP litigation matters · Eligible to obtain a national security clearance · Strong interpersonal skills, technical knowledge and superior writing ability · Work environment is fast-paced and requires flexibility and creativity in dealing with novel legal issues and complex transactions Raytheon is proud to offer a comprehensive, competitive benefits package.
