Work Description:
• Support the Lead Software Engineer in designing, developing, maintaining, upgrading, and documenting the WindPADS software.
• Acquire a thorough understanding of the existing WindPADS system requirements, architecture, functionality, and usage by working closely with the Lead Software Engineer.
• Assume increasing responsibilities, commensurate with level of understanding, which may include:
• Design, develop, and modify WindPADS software to process weather data for the JPADS-MP.
• Interface with, and support the prime contractor in the refactoring and integration of the JPADS-MP/WindPADS software into the Portable Flight Planning System/Combat Airdrop Planning System (PFPS/CAPS).
• Analyze and respond to Help Desk software questions/problems reported by JPADS-MP end users, and devise software solutions and workarounds.
• Represent PSI at various JPADS-MP meetings and exercises.
Required Qualifications:
• B.S. Degree (M.S. preferred) in Computer Science, or related field.
• 5+ years experience in life cycle planning and implementation of scientific software systems.
• 5+ years experience with development, analysis, evaluation, and troubleshooting of scientific software systems.
• 3+ years experience with scientific software development on the Windows XP platform using C/C++ under Visual Studio.
• Familiar with handling geo-referenced files (e.g., weather data files that are indexed by latitude, longitude, altitude, and time).
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• U.S. Citizen with (or able to obtain) a U.S Government Secret Security Clearance.
Desired Qualifications:
• Experience with scientific programming under Unix/Linux.
• Experience with MS SQL Server Express RDBMS.
• Experience with NetCDF (Network Common Data Form) data files.
• Experience with GriB (Gridded Binary) data files.
• Familiar with a physical earth science (e.g., meteorology, oceanography, cartography, geography, GIS, etc.).
• Experience with developing software systems for DOD.
• Experience with Visual Basic GUI development under Visual Studio.
• Experience with C#, .NET and Fortran.
• Knowledge of the Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI).
