Senior Systems Designer/Engineer

Manage corporate applications on the VSE global network.  Perform complex design, research and development of distributed application solutions for the Enterprise network including all remote access, data and voice convergence, load balancing, wireless and Internet/Intranet access.  Lead the network security architecture and deployment activities and manage daily security issues.

 

Design computer information systems, modifying systems to improve production or work flow, or expanding systems to serve new purposes.  Support all aspects of operations planning, monitoring, testing, coordination, scheduling, etc.  Analyze commercially available software for utility in the Enterprise. Recommend network modifications to configurations resulting in reduced costs or improved service, including the evaluation of emerging technologies, consultation on interoperability issues, network design and implementation, and management. 

 

Perform cost-benefit analysis for proposed system changes. Demonstrate strong customer service ethic; smoothly provide staff and users with assistance solving computer-related problems; train staff and users to work with computer systems and programs.

 

Knowledge and Skills: 

Strong skills in Windows 2000/2003, Exchange 2000/2003, Microsoft Office 2003, Veritas BackupExec, SQL 2000/2005 administration, Live Communications Server 2005, scripting in Visual Basic, SharePoint.

 

Strong skills in troubleshooting - determining causes of operating errors and identifying and implementing solutions, and in corporate change management.  Strong skills in Operations Analysis - analyzing needs and product requirements to create a design.

 

Excellent written and verbal communication skills and client focus a must; demonstrated skills in user training and technical documentation.

 

Experience and Education:

10+ years in applications engineering.

5+ years in network architecture and design.

10+ years in fast-paced customer service environment.

 

Desired:

B.S. in computer related or scientific field preferred.

MCSE.

Experience in implementing solutions in a heterogeneous Windows/Linux operating environment.

Experience with Deltek Costpoint systems engineering/application integration.
