Software Engineer for Models and Simulations / Senior Professional Staff I / II Description:Develop, apply, analyze and critique software engineering solutions for (systems of) models and simulations in a variety of defense/security applications.Duties Include:1. Technical leadership of software development for DHS Secure Border Initiative network (SBInet) analytic simulation. Development and execution of software plans, in compliance with established APL software engineering practices. Utilization of established standards, including IEEE 1516 (High Level Architecture) as appropriate.2. Participation in other modeling and simulation activities, including verification, validation, and accreditation (VV&A) of models, simulations, and data; development of interoperable simulations, and related software engineering activities.3. Interaction with sponsors and contractor organizations in performance of design, development, and analytical tasks. Current group task sponsors include the Modeling and Simulation Coordination Office (M&S CO), the Joint Forces Command (JFCOM), the Navy DDG 1000 program office, office of the Chief of Naval Operations (OPNAV), the Missile Defense Agency (MDA), and the National Security Agency (NSA).Qualifications:Required: BS or MS in computer science, physics, or engineering field, and 8 years of work experience in similar field. Simulation software engineering development experience. Familiarity with defense/security models and simulations.Desired: Experience using Object-Oriented software architectures, familiarity with the High Level Architecture (HLA) for simulation interoperability. Technical experience in developing software using structured processes. Experience in making progress on multiple tasks concurrently. Experience in interacting with sponsors. Experience in software testing and performance measurement. Familiarity with simulation verification and validation processes.
