Solid Rocket Motor Engineer

For quick consideration apply hereProvide engineering and technical support to the Nonmetallic Materials and Processes Branch, Polymers and Composites Engineering Team at the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama. Provide non-metallic materials technical support for the Space Shuttle Reusable Solid Rocket Booster (RSRB). This includes supporting technical and program review boards as required for specific materials issues and launch readiness, support to post flight assessment of RSRB, problem resolution for non-metallic materials and associated processes, review contractor submitted test plans, data and reports, and proposed design changed. Interface with the RSRB prime contractors on a continual basis. BS degree in Materials, Aerospace, or Mechanical Engineering or related field from an ABET accredited institution with a minimum of 10 years applicable experience is required. An overall knowledge of non-metallic materials including adhesives, coatings, ablatives, and insulator materials is required. Specific experience with materials and processes used on the Space Shuttle Reusable Solid Rocket Booster (RSRB) is desired. Experience with the testing and qualification of materials as well as problem resolution for materials and processes used on NASA manned flight programs is desired.
