We would like to add a Space Systems Modeling Engineer to our on-site team. The incumbent will support modeling and analysis of spacecraft and space constellations at NASA Langley Research Center, Hampton, VA.
Job Description
The successful applicant will be involved in a wide variety of spacecraft and mission design activities within the Space Mission Analysis Branch at NASA Langley. Job duties focus on development of the overall framework and software models for assessing performance and value from campaigns of spacecraft based missions. Aspects of value provided by science objective, spacecraft coverage, spacecraft reliability, and cost will be included in the modeling and analysis. All aspects of software tool operation will be stochastic in nature, modeling probability and variability in the range outcomes. Candidates with a strong interest in modeling of systems and stochastic modeling are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will:
· Participate in team studies and development of software models related to assessment of overall space mission campaign performance, including possible involvement in the areas of:
o Technology development schedule and cost requirements modeling
o Campaign science value assessment based on missions/instruments flown
o Direction and integration support for personnel involved in cost and schedule modeling.
o Creation of mission operations cost model
o Direct involvement in spacecraft mission sizing including concept design and preliminary costing
o Collection of historical program performance data in the cost/schedule/performance areas to support modeling and trending
o Estimation of mission/instrument Earth coverage performance against target metrics
o Spacecraft reliability modeling and implementation
· Help lead implementation and definition of software framework for integrating software models for the purpose of end-to-end campaign analysis. Candidate would play a key role in definition of “proof of concept” framework development.
· Providing technical documentation of analysis and study results. Briefing results to the client or other groups as necessary.
Factors that would help you land this great job opportunity include:Being highly motivated and possessing excellent communication skills. Having an aerospace engineering background and strong skills in space vehicle and mission design.Having prior experience and an ongoing interest in risk and reliability assessment or model-based costingDemonstrated experience with integration of multiple software models including using software such as Phoenix ModelCenterPrior experience integrating Satellite Tool Kit with other software using scripting.
Minimum Education Requirements:
M.S. or B.S. in aerospace/aeronautical/mechanical engineering, or equivalent.
Candidates with 3+ years industry experience desired.
