Sr. Database Architect/Administrator (GeOS) Position Description Senior Database Architect/Administrator responsible for leading the design, integration, and maintenance of complex databases in support of the Geospatial Open Source (GeOS) system development, a data and records management system for tracking products and workflow in a geospatial data archive. Serving the National Intelligence community, providing data to users at the right place and time. RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: Directing the design, implementation and test of database backup and recovery systems; database migration and archiving systems and procedures. Researching issues related to database security. Recommending proper hardware and software implementations to improve software quality, efficiency and minimize cost. Defining architecture and thresholds for database monitoring, and directing activities to monitor performance trends. COMMUNICATION: Candidate must have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and be able to work in a dynamic team environment. In addition, experience with one or more of the following skill combinations is required: Application Development Process: Disciplined application of agile software development processes and tools desired, e.g., Scrum, Extreme programming / XP, agile project management, Ajax. LANGUAGES & DATABASES: Relational DBMS Oracle (required), C++, JavaScript, HTML/XML, XSLT, XPath, Ruby. SOFTWARE ARCHITECTURE AND DESIGN: Knowledge of object-oriented analysis and design methods (OOA / OOD) using Unified Modeling Language (UML) is required. Web-based development experience preferred; user interface design and controls (e.g., Graphical User Interface / GUI, Intelligent User Interface). SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT ENVIRONMENT AND TOOLS: Rally Software (preferred), Telelogic Rhapsody or IBM-Rational Rose, Eclipse, HP-Mercury Quality Center. [ + ] Database Management Tools Advanced, expert knowledge of database management tools (e.g., Records Management Database, Access, Excel) and/or operating systems protocols. [ + ] Information Protection Advanced, expert knowledge of the security of architecture, electronic data communications, network/data, electronic commerce, electronic commerce, and other related areas to provide computing security and integration services to company computer users and customers. Interfaces with the appropriate government agencies, customers, suppliers, and company personnel in order to facilitate implementation of protective mechanisms and to ensure understanding of and compliance with computing security requirements. [ + ] Software Engineering Processes Advanced, expert knowledge of development methodology and configuration software management tools and processes. Education and/or Experience Bachelor's degree and typically 14 to 19 years' related work experience or a Master's degree with 12 to 17 years' related work experience or a PhD degree with 9 to 14 years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
