Sr. Estimator for Manufacturing of Aerospace Products

Successful candidate will: Prepare accurate cost estimates of producing products by assessing the cost effectiveness of make versus buy decisions by developing detailed operation routings, material requirements, tooling costs and initial startup costs from customer drawings or concurrently designed blueprints.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
Receives and reviews Request for Quote (RFQ) from customer and is responsible for providing accurate and quality estimates for the order and purchase of new and existing products, on-time per the customer’s schedule. Using parts lists and related drawings from customers, develops Bill of Materials (BOM) based on specifications and parts listings supplied by customer and enters the information onto an Estimating spreadsheet database. Creates data packs to be sent to suppliers to obtain material, process, and manufacturing costs. On receipt of supplier quotations, enters the selected supplier’s price onto the Estimating spreadsheet database for each specific component. Summarizes each component quote cost (i.e. materials, labor, rates) into the top-level ordered part to produce the overall quote cost and data package is forwarded to Contracts department. Reviews supplier requests for price increases and either approves, re-negotiates or instructs buyer / planner to change source of supply. Plays key role in sourcing process; matching product with supplier capabilities. Confers with suppliers and analyzes supplier’s operations to determine factors that affect price and determines the lowest cost consistent with quality, reliability and ability to meet required schedules. Build and maintain constructive, value-added relationships with executives and managers of key suppliers with an expectation of continuous improvement in products and costs. Work closely with suppliers to achieve superior response to RFQ’s and competitive pricing. Potentially play role in supplier facility and capability audits. Maintain active risk assessment profiles for key suppliers. Utilize ERP system to access and analyze data for decision making.
QUALIFICATIONS: This individual must be hands-on, with strong teamwork, facilitation, interpersonal, organization and communication skills. They must have a proven ability in problem solving and be able to relate to employees at all levels.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; or related experience and/or training or minimum 5 years complex manufacturing experience in tight tolerance, regulated environment, aerospace experience preferred. 3 years ERP/MRP systems required. 3 years proven success leading and successfully implementing Must have strong organization, communication, facilitation, teamwork and project management skills. CORE TRAINING REQUIREMENTS: General knowledge of military and commercial aerospace specifications and standards. Proficiency with computers and common business and technical software. General knowledge of machine shop practices sand processing standards helpful. Knowledge of military and commercial standards helpful.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
