Sr. Instrumentation/Data Acquisition Engineer
LOCATION: HUNTSVILLE, AL 35801 Job Description: Provide senior electrical engineering expertise focusing in the area of test instrumentation. Analyze complex features of the work and apply principles and practices of structural testing, or devise new approaches in problem solutions. Thoroughly review all results from assigned tasks and determine if outputs are complete, correct, integrated with project objectives, and adequately documented. Follow existing processes and procedures and recommend process improvements where appropriate. Serve as the focal point for the maintenance of existing inventories, equipment calibration coordinator, generation of equipment requirement specifications, oversight and coordination of instrumentation activities required in the Structural Strength test team. Instrumentation includes, but is not limited to, strain gauges (metal and composites; ambient and temperature extremes), load cells, pressure transducers, deflection transducers, and thermocouples. Coordinate, oversee, troubleshoot and manage instrumentation activities while assisting the measurement acquisition system engineer, directing technician work force and coordinating with the test engineer. Required Skills: BS degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering or related engineering discipline and a minimum of 6-8 years experience in structural test instrumentation. Must have electrical engineering expertise focusing in the area of test instrumentation. Knowledge of structural test instrumentation requirements, equipment calibration, strain gauges (metal and composites; ambient and temperature extremes), load cells, pressure transducers, deflection transducers, and thermocouples is essential. Excellent communication skills are needed. U.S. Citizenship is required. Desired Skills: Experience that includes maintaining test instrumentation inventories, coordinating equipment calibration, generating equipment requirement specifications, and overseeing and coordinating instrumentation activities related to structural testing is preferred. Familiarity with hydraulics, load control systems, data systems, and cryogenic fluids is desired. Visual C, Visual Basic, and LabView is desired.
