Sr Systems Engineer II - Navigation Systems
The Navigation Systems Department within the Guidance, Navigation and Control (GNC) center has positions available in the areas of navigation systems engineering, navigation hardware integration & test, and navigation modeling & simulation development. Knowledge of the mechanization of GNC systems is highly desired, with an emphasis on navigation systems engineering and design. The Senior Systems Engineer II will apply knowledge of hardware/software in the areas of Global Positioning Systems (GPS), inertial sensors, and integrated INS/GPS navigation. The engineer will develop technical solutions to complex navigation problems that require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity. The engineer will perform work without appreciable direction, exercising considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of the assignment. The engineer will guide the successful completion of major programs, possibly in a project leadership role. The engineer will represent the organization as the prime technical contact on projects and will interact with senior personnel on significant technical matters often requiring coordination between organizations. This is a technical leadership position performing navigation systems design and analysis. The candidate will apply knowledge of integrated Inertial Navigation System (INS) / Global Positioning System (GPS) subsystems to design, develop, test, and integrate application simulations and models for various missile applications. The type of work will include development of Kalman filters, navigation mechanization algorithms, alignment methods, as well as defining navigation subsystem requirements and interfaces. In addition, characterization of inertial sensors and GPS receivers will be required to include platform dynamics and environmental effects. Navigation analysis will use six degree of freedom (6DOF) simulations or other analysis tools to assess system performance. Navigation performance will be validated utilizing hardware test or flight test data. This position requires U.S. citizenship for purposes of obtaining a security clearance. Required Skills: The candidate must be experienced in one or more of the following areas: GNC system engineering, navigation system integration & test, modeling & simulation development, design and analysis of navigation algorithms, Kalman Filtering, Global Positioning Systems, Inertial Measurement Units and embedded real-time software. The candidate must have working experience with C/C++, MATLAB, and modeling/simulation tools, particularly six degree of freedom (6DOF) or Covariance simulations. Must be available for travel to support customer/supplier meetings and provide flight test support. Must be results-oriented and be able to communicate effectively with other engineering disciplines. Desired Skills: Knowledge of any of the following topics: 6DOF equations of motion, simulations, modeling system error characteristics, statistical processes and distributions, data reduction and analysis. Strong mathematical background is desired. Experience or courses in flight dynamics, linear control systems, random processes, optimal estimation, Kalman filtering and linear algebra is desired. Experience with 1553 communication bus interfaces, as well as environmental testing of navigation hardware is desired. Also, desire team leadership or technical project management experience. Required Education (including Major): Minimum Degree: B.S. Majors: Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering Raytheon is an equal opportunity employer and considers qualified applicants for employment without regard to race, color, creed, religion, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, age, disability, or Vietnam era, or other eligible veteran status, or any other protected factor.
