Strategic Buyer

 Principle Duties and Responsibilities

1.  Development of strategic commodity plans relating to market/trend analysis, source identification/selection, total cost reductions, supplier performance criteria, cost model structures, risk analysis, and supplier quality.

2.  Responsible for working within the supply chain to develop Lean material flow processes such as VMI, Kanban and blanket purchase order agreements. 

3.  Assure supply chain sources are capable of meeting and exceeding quality expectations, while insuring adequate capacity, on-time delivery, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

4.  Facilitate new product introduction with the identification and engagement of preferred suppliers.

5.  Provide commodity and supplier evaluation and selection, develop and negotiate contracts, manage relationship and conduct business awards.  Negotiate and implement agreements, contracts and purchase orders.

6.  Develop suppliers in support of our value stream, business unit, division, and company objectives.  Emphasis will be on identifying key suppliers to develop our total cost initiatives including working capital and transaction reduction improvements.

7.  Ability to understand and manage schedules, forecast, and communicates to supply chain.  Provide guidance on systems and processes that will assist supply chain activities in our Lean transformation.

8.  Select sources by conducting commodity surveys, interviews, supplier facility surveys, and scorecards.

9.  Develop and present data to suppliers, internal customers and other management.

10.  Facilitate cross-functional support for strategic sourcing decisions.  Work closely with design engineering, manufacturing engineering and quality engineering teams in the development of product and suppliers.



Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required



1. Bachelor’s Degree in appropriate field, MBA preferred.  Minimum of five years experience in manufacturing planning, procurement or supply chain or combination of relevant education and experience.

2. Working knowledge of ERP with an understanding of bills of materials and supporting data of the operating system

4. Understanding and ability to apply the principles of Lean Manufacturing and Kanban systems.

5. Must have strong negotiation skills and knowledge of negotiation strategies.
