Struct & Payload Design Engr 4 Position Description Antenna Reflector Integrated Product Team (IPT) Lead has responsibility, accountability, and authority for following: Leading and managing cost, schedule, risk and technical content of light weight precision composite reflector surfaces. Leading reflector mechanical and electrical design, manufacturing, assembly and test from proposal stage through hardware delivery. Lead and direct the daily activities of engineers, CAD designers, suppliers, manufacturing engineers and technicians to design and produce Antenna Reflectors. Create, manage, maintain and report on earned value, budgets, cost to complete, project schedule, and engineering releases using the Boeing Business tools. Ensure application of best practices and identifies the need for enhanced processes, methods, and tools. Be responsive to all customer needs within allocated budgets and requirements and manages technical and project performance of subcontractors, and suppliers. Lead and participate in Lean, CCPM and DFMAT activities to improve cycle time, throughput, and cost competitiveness for reflector products Use Boeing Lean Enterprise analysis methods and apply lean processes and tools. Leads and participates in the Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) activities. Provide technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems and develops solutions that are imaginative, thorough, practicable, and consistent with reflector product objectives. [ + ] Design Concepts & Techniques Extensive knowledge of design concepts and techniques (e.g., concurrent engineering, Design for Manufacture/Assembly [DFM/A]). [ + ] Engineering Processes Extensive and specialized knowledge of responsibilities and tasks performed by various Engineering departments/disciplines (e.g., design, test, software, technology, avionics). Extensive and specialized knowledge of the interaction between departments/ disciplines and how their products/processes affect one another and impact non-engineering processes (e.g., Operations, Logistics, Business). Education and/or Experience Requires educational credentials meeting the Boeing classification standards for engineers and typically 9 to 13 years' experience in an engineering classification or educational credentials meeting the Boeing classification standards for engineers and either a Master's degree with 7 to 11 years' experience or a PhD degree with 4 to 8 years' experience in an engineering classification. Other Job related information Provides IPT Leadership on following tasks: Design of satellite structures including interface negotiation, layout development, and production drawing release using ProE. Support of project manager(s) with technical content, cost and schedule of structure design and layout products from proposal stage through hardware delivery in an IPT environment.Planning of research and development programs and exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives.Application of best practices and identifies the need for enhanced processes, methods, and tools.Translation of contract requirements into work requirements, processes, and tasks.Planning, scheduling, and leading others to produce technical work responsive to customer needs within allocated budgets.Contacting customers, teaming partners, subcontractors, and suppliers to exchange technical data and to discuss project performance. Managing customer and supplier relationships and participates in development of fundamental approaches to projects and of requirements for implementation. Application of knowledge of structural design and layout, materials, design definition principles, and regulatory/qualification environment to create structural designs and layouts of products. Evaluating designs and perform trade studies for performance, structural adequacy, cost effectiveness, and regulatory compliance.Developing, integrating and documenting structural and payload system requirements to establish the system design and layout. Developing, maintaining and modifying structural and payload systems and component designs, using 3-D Computer Aided Design tools and/or other design and layout methods, to provide product definition to other engineering groups, production operations, suppliers and external customers throughout the product lifecycle.Performing, integrating analytical and test results to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications.Managing supplier development, test and production activities and coordinates with the supplier to optimize the design and achieve program goals.Developing new design/analysis processes and tools to improve the effectiveness, quality and efficiency of the development effort. Experienced in requirements definition, structure design, 3-D modeling, configuration management, project management, scheduling, earned value, anomaly resolution, risk management, subcontracts management, hardware assembly, integration and test.Knowledge of satellite product areas (e.g., antenna, bus and payload module structures, integration of major sub-systems, satellite configuration).Participate in and/or lead a antenna structures team by communicating/coordinating with other affected groups, vendors, and customers, and conducting design and customer reviews (e.g., internal design reviews, Preliminary Design Review [PDR], Critical Design Review [CDR]) to ensure structural design requirements are met. Provide written or verbal status reports. Develop and document preliminary designs (e.g., structural arrangements, layouts, interface definitions, load paths, surface definitions) for vehicles and structures by evaluating concepts.Perform studies (e.g., trade, kinematics, tolerance) and preliminary structural sizing, and review results with other affected groups.
