Structural Engineer

Westar Aerospace & Defense Group, Inc. is a leading provider of engineering and technical services to the Army’s Aviation and Missile communities in the Huntsville area. 

Westar is seeking Structural Engineers with the following qualifications/experience:

• BS degree in Civil, Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering from an accredited engineering curriculum.

• Experience in static stress and fatigue analysis of aircraft; experience with rotary wing aircraft dynamic components is a plus.

• Experience in aircraft/helicopter flight test planning, flight data processing and analysis.

• Experience in application of rotary wing component life methodology is a desirable.


Duties of these positions involve:

• Application of standard practice hand calculations of aircraft and component static stress analysis for verification of structural integrity

• Development of airworthiness structural criteria, testing requirements, test witnessing, test plans, determination of flight envelope restrictions (Do Not Exceeds(DNE)), and analysis of flight strain/loads data.

• Review of flight test and specimen laboratory testing data to establish S-N curves and prediction of component lives.

• Preparation of flight releases, safety of flight messages, and airworthiness evaluations and reports.

• Candidate must be security clearance eligible.
