You will be responsible for all Safety and Mission Assurance (S&MA) activities associated with the assessment and verification of structural load environments used for development and certification of the Space Shuttle Orbiter and the Constellation Program Crew Exploration Vehicle. You will also apply your experience and support the Space Shuttle and Constellation programs, working as a loads analyst assessing structural responses associated with dynamic load environments. Tasks include: • Perform structural loads assurance reviews and supporting independent analysis in support of validating vehicle load environment predictions. • Perform technical assurance reviews in support of verification compliance of vehicle hardware subjected to known loading environments. • Verify that Orbiter and Crew Exploration Vehicle structural elements are compliant with Program and Project structural requirements by reviewing or using coupled loads analysis, dynamic analysis and test processes, modal analysis and test processes, acoustic analysis and test processes, and structural life cycle determination processes. • Prepare and present technical evaluations to management and NASA customer. • Travel to vendors, prime contractor and the vehicle processing center may be required. EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: BS in Mechanical, Civil or Aerospace Engineering and a minimum of 8 years experience in structural analysis or a minimum of 6 years experience and an advanced degree in Vibrations or Structures with an emphasis on dynamics. Preference will be given to candidates with experience specializing in dynamics loads analysis. REQUIRED SKILLS: • Experience performing and have a strong understanding of random vibration analysis and testing, time and frequency domain structural response plots, coupled loads analysis, conversion of dynamic loads to static loads equivalents, and correlation of dynamic math models with test results. • Ability to identify structural responses that exceed certification load requirements. • Experience in structural analysis and testing related to design verification, maintenance, planned mission operations, or real time mission support. • Ability to generate written reports and prepare and give presentations for senior management and the NASA customer. • Ability to accept direction willingly, work as a team player under minimal management review and supervision, and accurately perform tasks as assigned. • Knowledge of Windows and MSOffice tools (e.g. MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel.) This position requires successful completion of a government background check before commencement of employment. If you are not a United States Citizen, this check could take 12 to 18 months to complete. DESIRED SKILLS: • Proficiency with MSC/NASTRAN, Dynamic Solution Solvers or equivalent finite element modeling. • Experience with structural loads predictions using finite element modeling tools. (e.g. MSC, NASTRAN, Patran, I-DEAS). • Knowledge of S&MA disciplines. • Knowledge of Space Shuttle Orbiter or other spacecraft structures.
