Systems Engineer 6, Space Network Comm Position Description Job Description: Qualified applicant will be expected to leverage domain expertise in communications and networks systems engineering to lead the CONOPS development of classified complex spaced based communications & networks systems. Works closely with and influences customer to develop users concept of operations for system, including use cases and scenarios to define how the classified communication and network systems will be used/employed. This position will be expected to lead the CONOPS development, user interface definition and the Ground Segment Spec development. Participates in the conducting of comm. & networks system architecture functional analyses for classified multi-segment and highly complex space systems programs to ensure that functional requirements are met at all levels and functional requirements are traceable to customer CONOPS. Applicant will be expected to develop and integrate architectural views. This requires ability to define appropriate artifacts derived from DoDAF version 1.5 describing the systems and operational functionality of a complex SATCOM network communications system. Expected to expertly develop the necessary message sequence diagrams, functional flow block diagrams, IDEF0 functional decomposition diagrams, control flow, and data flow and other customized views as necessary. Will be expected to develops new principles, processes, methods, or concepts as necessary in regards to the integration of systems and software architectural perspectives. Provides system architecture and customer operational concept guidance to program management. Manages and approves processes for functional architecture development and integration of functions with other appropriate architectural perspectives including requirements, logical and physical views. Education and/or Experience Requires educational credentials meeting the Boeing classification standards for engineers and typically 20 years' experience in an engineering classification or educational credentials meeting the Boeing classification standards for engineers and either a Master's degree with 18 years' experience or a PhD degree with a minimum of 15 years' experience in an engineering classification. Other Job related information Required Job Skills/Qualifications: Qualified candidate should be well versed in the customer's mission areas and knowledgeable of the customer community and domain. Extensive experience in space to ground systems interface definition is desired. Qualified candidate should have experience and references which show an excellent working relationship with Ground segment partners. Applies and develops highly advanced comm & networks technologies, scientific principles, theories, and concepts as well as highly advanced job practices, techniques, and standards. Addresses solutions to highly advanced multi-discipline integrating issues applicable to communications and network systems, including primary CONOPS characteristics such as physical and functional interfaces, communications reliability, link availability, and environmental constraints. Applies highly advanced communications and network concepts and principles (e.g., timing, control, modulation, coding, band width, digital, analog, switching, datalinks, frequency hopping, spread spectrum, null steering, Multiple Input/Multiple Output (MIMO), Demand Assignment Multiple Access [DAMA], routers, switches, local area networks). Familiarity with software architecture development in UML and functional modeling in IDEF0 is also desired. Experience with architecture modeling and database tools like DOORS, Rose/Rhapsody, System Architect, or SLATE desired. Applies highly advanced knowledge of secure communications (e.g., multi-level security, voice and data security, encryption, decryption, red/black, TEMPEST). Applies highly advanced methods to ensure communication system survivability (e.g., protect from jamming, blinding, detection, exploitation, hardening, radiation, blanking).
