Systems Engineer - TAWS/IRTSS
Solidus is looking for a Systems Engineer to provide engineering support in such programs as TAWS/IRTSS, Terrain Awareness and Warning System/Infrared Target-scene Simulation Software. The candidate will minimally provide systems engineering support to the 951st ELSG and perform as the engineering interface to our client’s Program and TAWS/IRTSS organizations.
This position supports various systems engineering activities consistent with the Joint Mission Planning System (JMPS) Systems Engineering and Integration Contract (SEIC). The JMPS will be used by the Air Force, Navy, and Army to plan aviation missions, replacing the various mission planning systems used today. As part of the Platform Engineering team, and working closely with the Government customer, the systems engineer will perform the following specific activities for their assigned components:
• Provide day-to-day engineering oversight of Mission Planning software development efforts on behalf of the Government customer. • Represent the Government customer in formal technical reviews (requirements, design, test, etc.) consistent with systems engineering plans and standards. Advocate for meaningful entry/exit criteria, appropriate review artifacts & activities, accurate documentation & checklists, and review approval forms. Report readiness to proceed to the Government customer.• Evaluate technical data items, to include high-level architectures, requirements documents, designs, test plans/reports, and process descriptions. Confirm the necessary linkages exist among requirements, design and test verification documents/ procedures. Document and report findings and recommendations to the Government.• Monitor and report technical variances; facilitate resolution of technical issues that adversely impact successful product delivery. Report the status of product development to the Government customer on a consistent basis.• Coordinate and facilitate relevant Mission Planning technical interchange meetings and Working Groups with users, developers and other stakeholders. Generate minutes and track resulting action items as required.• Analyze technical metrics, report results and recommend corrective action.• Monitor external component dependencies; participate in Deficiency Review Boards.• Maintain currency of software component baseline data on behalf of the Government.• Support process maturity assessments and other process improvement activities.• Support the Government risk management process through identification, analysis, mitigation and tracking of risks applicable to the assigned components. • Ensure all approved Mission Planning technical processes are applied for each assigned component.• Interface directly with both Government and developer representatives. Establish and maintain close working relationships with both.
Up to 25% travel may be required.
Education: Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering or related technical discipline and 5+ years experience. Six (6) years of general experience is considered equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree. With a Master's Degree, three (3) years of general experience is required.
Required Skills: Viable candidates must be able to obtain a US Secret Clearance or higher.
The successful candidate must have:• a thorough knowledge of systems engineering concepts and experience in applying these concepts to large, software-intensive systems; • experience with US Department of Defense (DoD) system development and acquisition processes;• strong written and verbal communication skills as required to collaborate with customer representatives, domain experts, and other systems engineers in the development of complex software systems.
Desired Skills:• Experience with aviation mission planning systems or other military applications.• Experience with the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) Capability Maturity Model-Integrated (CMMI) processes and knowledge of Agile Software Development processes.• Familiarization with Air Force environmental sensor capabilities.
