UNIX/Linux System Administrator

The Geospatial Intelligence Database Integration (GIDI) program under GeoScout is responsible for the O&S activities associated with a single, unified Geospatial database. The GIDI database ingests and disseminates feature level data to and from other "stovepipe" Geospatial databases. The team is looking for a motivated UNIX/Linux System Administrator to take responsibility for maintaining the existing system, and providing expertise to the transition team who will be transitioning the existing system from a SUN UNIX to a Red Hat LINUX environment. Required Skills: Provide systems networking administrative support to NGA operations personnel to resolve system problems, collect data, prepare technical investigations and develop workarounds. Support the management of system resources, problem analysis, system troubleshooting, COTS and patch installations, system integration, hardware upgrades and maintenance support. Establish new user accounts, privileges, and security. Create and deploy Ghost images. -Strong administrative skills in SUN Solaris and Windows 2003 environments -Strong administrative/design skills in Red Hat LINUX -Knowledge of SUN Cluster 3.1 -Knowledge of Veritas Volume Manager -In-depth knowledge of network architectures and protocols. -Self motivated -Strong communication and interpersonal skills -Works well with others in an integrated team environment -Demonstrated ability to lead small team (2 - 3 people) -Ability to develop and document workarounds -Create and update system and procedural documentation Desired Skills: -Familiarity with Oracle 9i, 10g -Familiarity with ArcView -Familiarity with ArcGIS -Familiarity with ArcSDE -Familiarity with Erdas Imagine -Familiarity with Feature Manipulation Engine (FME) -Experience with converting UNIX to LINUX environment Required Education (including Major): Candidate must have a Bachelors degree in engineering, computer science, computer networking, or equivalent experience, plus 6 + years technical experience in the UNIX/Linux System Administration discipline with at least 3 years experience on a large multi-component system, and at least one year experience with Red Hat LINUX.
