Position: Business Intelligence Database Administrator

 

Position Reports to:  Business Intelligence Manager

 

Salary: Dependent on Qualifications

 

General Responsibilities: 

 

The Database Administrator’s role is to design, install, monitor, maintain and performance tune Business Intelligence databases while ensuring high levels of data availability.  This individual is also responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing database policies and procedures to ensure the integrity and availability of databases and their accompanying software.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

 

· Ensure overall health and performance of database serving as data warehouse.

· Monitors performance, reliability, availability and recoverability of databases.

· Maps logical data models to physical data models.

· Manages user accounts and access privileges

· Designs, implements and tunes database schemas

· Conducts regular performance testing and tuning

· Manages storage and space memory

· Implements and maintains operational and disaster recovery procedures

· Involved in capacity planning

· Optimizes database partitions

· Implements dimensional models, including aggregation and indexing strategies

· Implements vendor software patches

· Work with BI analysts and support team to troubleshoot issues.

· Work with BI report developers to generate optimized code.

· Functions as back-up for ETL Developer

 

Qualifications/Requirements:

 

· 3+ years experience managing production data warehouse database (Sqlserver / Oracle > 500 GB )

· A thorough understanding of relational database internals, Star Schema concepts, data warehouse data model and source data

· Working knowledge of ETL and query tools

· Advanced SQL skills.

· Meta data management

· Strong conceptual and analytic skills

· Highly motivated, organized, detail oriented and a team player

· Excellent communication skills

 

Education Requirements:

 

· Bachelor’s degree or equivalent

· 6+ years of hands on experience in IT

· MCDBA or OCP certification preferred

· Prior experience with Microstrategy preferred
